nice one mate  - they doing a feature on your car then?

Hadn't seen that! :)

Yeah, I spoke to Garlick and he wants to do a small feature on the car. He actually contacted me a week or two before the day, as he'd seen the car parked up in town one night and had put a post on PH asking if anyone knew who the owner was...

No idea what he has planned, but will keep you guys updated. He did mention it would be about 6-8 weeks from now, and would also include other Z4Ms, not just mine.

And who was it that pointed him in the right direction?

So I saw there were some pics of you and some other Z4M's at Surrey Rolling Road - what results did you get? :)

337.2bhp and 281lb/ft @ approx 4900rpm (reading back from the graph).

Obviously that's just about stock (338bhp/343ps), however the other E46 M3s there were running in the low 320s, and I think Top Pup's stock Z4MC got 333bhp (332.9?), although I don't know what torque reading he got.

What we did notice when we compared graphs, was that my torque curve seemed a lot flatter, and higher in the low-mid range than his, so the exhaust and filter seem to have made a mild improvement, which is nice (and all I was expecting tbh).

I'll scan the graph in and post it up.

Here you go...

Don't know if Top Pup can do the same for comparison...?

Hi-Res for the analysts... :P

I shouldn't keep replying (talking) to myself, but looking at the graph reminded me of another observation - which was the slight flat-spot/dip on my power curve between 6000-6250RPM...

Can't say I've noticed it when driving, but it was very apparent on the dyno. Could be a down-side of the filter, perhaps? Hard to say without replacing parts back to stock and doing the runs again to compare, which would be nice to do sometime.

Mine made 332.8 and about 278lb/ft @ 4900rpm, but could probably do with a few more miles on it before it's fully loosened up.
Here's mine for comparison
(Please note the scales are slightly different)

You can just see the same dip on my graph but it's nowhere near as pronounced.
Maybe it's a quirk of the mapping or vanos and air filter / exhaust exaggerate it?

Thanks for posting the charts guys - pretty good figs for both cars

Looks like v little difference in peak torque figs, but sixspeeds looks a bit flatter overall.

Maybe we should do a group Z4M trip to a Rolling Road - Surrey or Austec in Gatwick? - and with a mix of cars, from completely stock, to ones with just one non-stock item each, ie filter, exhaust, then could get a reasonable idea of what difference the mods make?

James

That is almost identical to what mine made at Thorney's it was 332 something, mileage was about 8000 I think. What has yours done now?

Andy

Good figures you got there mate.

I like the sound of that!

We could leave it a couple of months til winter perhaps..

a) because there's never much to do and it'll be a good excuse to get the car out over the colder months...

b) the colder temperatures might will help the cars run a bit better, especially when static on a dyno... :D

Hi Jason, I'm ashamed to admit it but I've only done 3500 miles in mine and it had about 3400 on it when it was dyno'd.
I just don't get the time to use it :(

I'm at Surrey rolling road next weekend with the Alpina register, so should be interesting to compare the graphs from the M to the 3.4 of the Roadster S - which I of course expect to the considerably down on power but very similar on torque.

So what happened to the comparison? Did it ever happen? I'm interested because I had my car at SRR today and it produced 349 hp without any mods which surprised me, especially as the only reason I took it was due to a lack of faith in the torque I felt it was producing - again a major surprise.

349 hp that's a great figure, any chance you could pop the graph up?

Not immediately as I don't have a scanner but Charlie's promised to e-mail me a copy when he backs up the PC on the rolling road.
