Wraps (for sixspeed especially)

I like the idea of a wrap but I don't think I could go through with it...I would like a classic martini style (early 80's Lancia Rally Style) Zed - but I would look like a pratt in it...

Underneath there is a grey GT-3

So i finally decided to get a bit of vinyl done just to see if i like the work. If i like it, i'm planning something more adventurous.

My car is carbon black, which is really dark blue so i've gone for some quite subtle gloss black bits.

The rood panel (which will look nice with the sun glass), wing mirrors (to match the gloss black mounts) and the Andy Sixspeed style lower front spoiler bar. I'll post some photos of before and after next week once it's done. I think it will be quite classy and i'm really just using it as a test bed to see if i like the work and look etc.

I'm also painting the kidney grills in black to add to the meaner look.

Fingers crossed it goes as well as it looks in my head!

Sounds good, as you say should match in well with the darkened glass over the rear of the car :)

i've been thinking about getting my car wrapped in matte black. i've recently spoken to totally dynamic (the north london one) and for my Z4R with hardtop they quoted me £990. I asked about a group by deal and they offered a 10% discount for a party of three. :)

I'm guessing a coupe will be the same price and the roadster without hardtop a little cheaper. i can find out exact figures if people are interested?

personally i was looking to do this a few months down the line when i have more funds, but i think if we leave deposits then we should be able to schedule it any time.

So anyone up for it?

I used Totally Dynamic Southport for wrapping the front and rear bottom rails. Been impressed by how well it absorbs stone chips and no sign of it peeling.

Im booked in with Totally Dynamic on the 28th Sept for a roof wrap (Leicester) , I'll post pics up when done !

what do you do when rocks and bugs hit it? Is it easy to clean?

from what i've been told it's the same. the only thing you shouldn't do is put a pressure washer too close.

My biggest concerns would be:

Chips as mentioned by 561design. If the underlying coulour is different it will show through terribly. Do you end up sticking tiny dots of the wrap in, to fill chip holes?

Secondly any damage caused to the underlying paint while trimming to fit it, removing it, or UV colour change/differences over time.

I guess with all things like this it's down to the quality of the install and how long it's expected to be on for.

TD guarantee the work for 5 years and say no damage would occur to the paint as long as it's factory. I'm not sure about chips tbh.

peddy - that's reassuring to know.

There's a place near the Fort in B'ham that does it so I may drop by one day for inspiration.

It also depends on how they do the fitting.

Sometimes the wrap just sits on the panel and you can just about see the edge - that's why you have to be very careful with pressure washers.

Others wrap around the edge of the panel so that they're more fully protected from the elements. However this method is usually more expensive as some panels have to be removed (some are accessible without removal of course).

If you find they seem to be good and have good prices then could you let me know please. If you do actually go ahead with it then i think we should try a group buy. what do you think?

Sure - will do.
I'm not convinced a group buy could ever work on this as it's not a commodity item, with each person wanting different amounts, levels, styles, etc. More likely a club related discount of xx%

Raccoon quoted me £1600 plus VAT in January, maybe it has come down a bit since then. A roadster would be less because no roof to do.

The group buy will be hard to negotiate because each individual location is franchised, so unless everyone went to the same branch I don't think it would work.

WOW that's quiet a lot!! I've just checked their site and found the following in their FAQ:

Smart Car - £900
VW Beetle - £1,200
Ford Transit Connect - £1,400
Mwb Transit - £1,700
Mercedes CL600 - £2,000
Double Decker Bus - £7,000

I'm guessing we'd fall somewhere between a Beetle and a Transit Connect?

I've sent them an email asking for a quote.
