So all the parts I needed for my steering conversion have arrived, except the bolts I need!

Seems Royal Mail have let me down, they were posted last Thursday and still no sign of them appearing, so might have to re-plan the weekend!

Indeed! Although I still need to figure out some way to mount the cooling pipe from the E46. The rest looks pretty simple to me in all honesty, so it should be child's play for a man of your skill Mike!

Unfortunately the bolts that are missing include the intermediate shaft bolts, bolts to secure the pulley to the pump and reservoir mounts, so it's a pain that such a small package is holding up the job.

Does it run in front of the radiator pack or below it? Can you not alter the original brackets?

It's meant to run in front of the radiator, assuming the brackets are present on the Z4. However it also requires removal of the expansion tank, which I don't much fancy after flushing it all with new fluid a couple of months back!

Might see if there's anywhere else suitable, or see if I can feed it through from underneath somehow. Even just a temporary fix for the time being and possibly adding a universal oil cooler to the loop to replace at a later date.

Can't see how you'd need to remove the expansion tank, as that's on the back of the rad pack? I'd just disconnect the hoses from the cooler and feed them through past the rads, before reconnecting?

had Jack at royals refurb my wheel and I'm loving it, think it's a little thinner than msport, but nicer IMO. Highly recommend him!
next cosmetic job is get that brushed aluminium wrapped in leather when there's some spare cash lying around

Jack's work is top notch! I had my Std wheel done, with double padding and perforated sides, and I loved it. However, I swapped it for an ///M wheel when the (free) opportunity arose..

You are right that it's not quite as thick as the ///M wheel, but I found it easier to get my fingers around the latter, I think this is because the std wheel is "round" whereas the ///M one is more "triangular" if that makes sense?

Will be sending my ///M wheel off to get done with the perforated sides at some point though..

Just going from E46 guides, it may well be possible to feed it in if not using the OEM brackets, so might look at that and some rubber mounts of some form to hold it and prevent vibration if OEM ones aren't present or require expansion tank removal.

Anyway, I'll know better when I get to work and will figure something out!

Yeh It might be that I've got used to the thin round SE wheel, but driving in my old 2.0 with the M wheel yesterday it felt very clunky.
Second hand Msport wheels are a big mark up from a refurb though

After eight days of ownership i finally managed to get the horrendous front run flats replaced with a nice set of Goodyear Eagles and it thankfully transformed the ride.
Not surprising when I noticed the date code on the old tyres.... 0603! That's July 2003! I can only think they were replacements about two years into its life. It's a 2003 with 65k miles, about a third of which were done in the first two years.

Well, my missing bits arrived with the postie yesterday morning so I got to work. Not many photos at the minute, but first job was to take the seats out and tidy them up out of the car, that way I could leave the colourant to dry all day and night. Removed the airbox and fan to give myself some more room, car up on the ramps to remove splash guard and reinforcement plate, then jacked up off the plate to get the wheels free. Bit of a pain but it worked!

Detach intermediate shaft at both ends, slid off very easy which makes me think it may have been the cause of the rattle! Old rack out, swap tie rods over (mine had only covered 2k miles), refurb purple tag rack in. Centred everything and fitted the Z4M intermediate shaft, all good!

Plumbed up all the piping, unfortunately due to space restrictions the cooler is going to have to sit behind the radiator near the bottom, as there's no other place to mount it without stripping the cooling system out. Pipes aren't long enough to go under the radiator, an oversight on my part but it should be fine. Will monitor and see!

Anyway that's as far as I got yesterday, can't prime the pump or fill the rack yet as the seats are out, so the battery is still disconnected and the engine can't be cranked to get the fluid moving.

Today's plan, drop the column and detach the motor, then see if I can remove the pinion easily. If not, it may end up getting cut off! I can't see that causing particular issues?
