The bolts in

Changed my rocker cover, gasket and eccentric shaft sensor yesterday. All went well if you exclude dropping one of the ESS bolts into the engine - very luckily it stopped half way down the block on the timing chain so I fished it out with a magnet. Very phew!!!
The bolts in the ESS are captive. There was no need to risk them falling into the engine. You not realising that is why the BMW engineers list this as a job not suitable for the average end-user.

Swapped back to my winter wheels before the deep freeze

Sounds a tad rude?
The fact the bolt fell out kind of suggests it's not captive.

It's good to have threads like this to warn those who are doing ESS sensor replacement for the first time !

I would call those bolts "semi-captive" - since they are threaded only on the end, they will not come out of the sensor while installing. I've done this job on two N52's, and the second time I also experienced a bolt beginning to thread itself out of the sensor. Because I had read / watched posts / done the job before, I was being extra cautious and saw one bolt was unthreading beyond the 'loose' point.

Glad it worked out !

Insurance renewal. LV quoted a 50% increase, which TBH I was expecting having read much about rising premiums. Confused.com to the rescue again, giving me Aviva for £193 including legal cover and only the compulsory excess. Thanks! It pays to be old(er) sometimes…
A boring but essential purchase. Now I need to spend the change on something more exciting!!

Shoes?

Almost had a heart attack when the car started making a racket down the road from the house... Thought somethign came loose around the rear brakes or diff, ended up being a branch which got tangled in the rear diff braces and made the thin aluminium panels resonate when it was dragging on the floor

LV have quoted me a 60% increase on last year (2 car multicar policy up from £519 to £815) but they are still 20% cheaper than any others (being quoted over a grand elsewhere). Looked as separate policies rather than multicar but they are coming out at a grand as well. Seems i am staying with LV.

Wifey just got her renewal from Aviva. She had to tell them she got 3 points for speeding and it went up by £12 from last year.
Aviva seem to be a pretty stable option right now.

Mine just through with a 50% uplift after having come down last year. Will try the aggregators but based on recent stories, not expecting much.

Part way through my Policy I got 3 points motorway speeding, rang Insurance to tell them and to my surprise and the Insurance Guy he told me they actually owed me £16, gobsmacked. Money sent through, thankyou very much SAGA.

Fitted new aluminium pedal covers from Pedal Haus in USA http://www.pedalhaus.com/e85rhd.html . Thanks to [ref]Ed Doe[/ref], for bringing these to my attention in a post about pedals . They arrived within a week and their customer service is excellent . They are very light and are easy to fit . Feel very grippy
