The time has come: AP Brakes

What do you mean exactly...? That your balancing weight was relocated to that exact place in the rim was clear for me. I'm not sure if the relocating of the weight will be enough to make my 18" M164 winter wheel fit. The AP measure template hits the inner side of my M 164 wheel with 0,5 -1mm.

my balancing weights are at X.

I don't think you should rely on the template. Best to use the caliper when it arrives.

After months of research I have ordered my AP racing BBK (CP5575-1010BK.G8 + CP5144-1004.G8).... Thanks for all the answers and advice! I went for the full kit. I'm planning to keep the Z4M for a very long time, so for me it's worth the investment. Can't wait to get them on my car and do a trip to the NS again :)

I hope the AP template is 2mm off en that the front caliper fits with my 18" M164 winter wheels the same way as with the oem 18" Z4M wheel. :? If they don't fit then I will sell the winter wheels (hopefully not).

Aliv6 as a novice if there are any simple instructions to hold on to your brakes for longer I'm all ears :scratchhead:
I was taught to brake hardest at you fastest speeds and less then pressure as you come to turn, rather than pushing harder & harder to scrub the speed of into the corner. This means that you're getting rid of most of your brake heat at the time when their is the most cooling air coming over them.

This also has the benefit of having a better balance as the car is not tipped onto its nose should you need to trail brake into the corner.

Saved me writing it. Echo the above extract. But as you say it is largely dependant on the track. I did Brunter a few yrs back that also had 2 serious stoppers, 130-30...Not alot of fun.

Hi guys.

I must say that you are both ABSOLUTELY right.

I'm fairly new to track days and off course got a bit exited chasing (and eventlually overtaking) an Elise and TOTALLY cooked the OEM brakes in 3 track days. Disks are blue and the wholes have loads of pad material in them and they now squeek like a cat. Car still traces straight though.

Completely my fault. On my 2nd day I really learned to do cooling laps and not averrun the car for so many laps at the time. On my 3 rd day I was just enjoying starting to run with TC off and geting the back out of corners. Anyway, I ended up going into a chicane way too hot on a squeeshy pedal with TC off. Amaizingly I did not go straight into the gravel but did flick it too quickly out of the chicane and then lost the back dis the first bit of correction OK but did not move the steering wheel quick enough the other way. The result is that I spun like a turd and went into the soft barriers (red and white plastic one). So a scartched rear bumper and a light bump into the rear wing  . Feel like a complete muppet as I knew perfectly well I was messing about. I tell you, I deserved that one! Lesson learned

Yes the track was dirty (and is a rubbish track used for drifting) but I can thank the cars great engineering and fab Michelin Sports for not having doofed even worse than that. :? it really is mostly down to the drivers skill and knowledge on how to use his equipment correctly.

Anyway, full AP kit has to be purchased now! along with a new rear diffusor.

It seems the full AP kit (4pot rear, 6 front) kit is £3.5k inc VAT. Any better deals out there? In France their distributor quoted me €4500 LOL :x

Maybe you can find a used AP kit on Ebay or on a forum and save some money. For me I wanted a brand new one! The price of a full kit with my dealer in Belgium is €4.000 (incl. VAT)

Yep, delivered to Simpsons this Friday. I'll be getting them fitted asap the week after! (on holiday at the moment)

wahoooooo playa did you order the full kit or the fronts only?? what size discs did you order?? colour??
your going to be absolutly blown away with these, not to mention the substantial weightloss ;-)

i love the pedal feel, the rotors get comically blue after a beating!!

Full kit in red with OE rotors for rear and whatever comes bundled from AP on the front. Had the pads replaced with pagid RS29 all round too. Can't wait to get them on and back on a track

any reason you didnt order the ap rear discs???

Whats Simpons rational for keeping oem rears. Surely it will look bizarre with different disks, grooved vs. Drilled...

sorry simpson, you guys are awesome but i simply dont understand this??? This will look very strange indeed.

You can only see the discs when stationary and even then only when you're looking at the car directly side-on. Is it such a problem seeing as it is entirely cosmetic? Really doesn't bother me whether they match 8)

True...But if it wasn't about cosmetics you wouldn't of fitted Aero skirts, CSL's etc...

Just seems odd, not sure why Simpsons would suggest it, not particularly good upselling on their behalf!
