I could never understand why BMW equipped their M products with such poor brakes... Look at the M3 CSL... An M3 that was developed for track use. Why did they not put decent brakes on this car? Strange decisions from BMW.playalistic said:Yeah my thinking too. You'd think they'd at least have BBKs as an option on the list?! Shortsighted at best.
Did you order the front and rear Ap kit? Most people say that you only need the front AP kit and that the rears don't ad much. I see that you also have oem CSL wheels on your car... I'm really interested to hear if the front AP kit fits without spacers and how much space there is between the caliper and the CSL wheel. Keep us posted please....playalistic said:Either way, I'm still going for AP brakes. In fact the deed is done and deposit placed. Been told they may take up to 6 weeks to build and arrive based on it being motorsport season.Makes sense I guess.
I went with both front and rear. Simpsons mentioned the front bias can cause trouble on track under big stops and it makes sense to me anyway. They definitely fit under the CSL wheels no problem.Franzino said:Did you order the front and rear Ap kit? Most people say that you only need the front AP kit and that the rears don't ad much. At first; I did not have a definitive answer if my 19 CSL wheels would fit without spacers with the front AP brake kit CP5575-1010B (Z4M kit with the smaller caliper). I presume you ordered the same kit. I have received a template for the AP brake system that can be used to verify fitment.playalistic said:I went with both front and rear. The front Z4M kit you are referring to does not shift brake balance forward a massive amount. It is primarily designed for more thermal capacity. While the rear kit provides a more perfect dynamic balance, many customers happily run the front-only system. If you find you need more bite from the rear brakes due to driving style, tire choice, damper settings, etc., there are many pad compounds available that will do just that.
