The time has come: AP Brakes

im not going to lie...... ive been out in afriends m3 with the ksport kit...... it cost 2k ALL in brand spankers (front/rear ,honestly felt the same as my APs, i love to tell you different but that would be a lie.....

honestly if i was about to buy brand new aps for 3k id definatly go for the ksports...... just search google, youll not find a single bad review on cars ranging from 300-900bhp..... The gs builder s/c m3 uses the ksport setup.

The k-sport kit is completely compatible with the AP Rotors as well!!!

i have no problem recommending the k-sports, i love my APs but i cant help feeling they are slightly overprice :?
im am just trying to be honest with you before you order.

im just showing you what i would do.... second time round, just showing you options before you order, options i didnt explor that i wish i did :-)

Cheers for the pointers beedub. I'm curious to hear some real-world feedback from someone who has these on their ZM, E46 M3/M3CSL.

Alternatively, sell me your AP's!!! Seriously! :D

my friend has a m3, mucho modded, and honestly he beats these ksports to a pulp and they are just as good, pad selection is the same as AP, the rotors are exactly the same type of rotor, hell you can even interchange AP units with NO mods into the ksport setup once they are worn if you wish......

no word of a lie...... if i was buying again id buy the ksport.

take them to simpson and get them fitted, you'll save around 1200 quid.

do a search on the ksport brakes and i gaurantee you will not find one single bad review.... dont get me wrong i love my APs, they are fab, i got them for a great price but after experiencing what i have and seeing the NEW price for APs id buy the ksports every single day of the week, they also come in some rediculously sick colours, lol!! They come with every single nut and bolt needed for install.

i thought id just show you their are cheaper, and JUST as good ways.

There's no mention of 4 pots though on their site.... only 6 and 8. I would think 6-pots would be too much on the rears even with 8-pots on the front no? :?

Echos my thoughts - although I assume braking force isn't linear just based on the amount of pistons the caliper carries. It's not just a matter of raw force being applied, more it's down to the disc and pad material and effect on eachother? I'm just speculating here based on common sense so probably totally wrong :D

Either way, I'm still going for AP brakes. In fact the deed is done and deposit placed. Been told they may take up to 6 weeks to build and arrive based on it being motorsport season. Makes sense I guess.

6 weeks, man i hate waiting for parts!!!

im waiting for my vt2 parts, its shipping on wednesday, then will take another week to arrive, then i have to wait till simpson have a booking for me!! then ontop of that i have to stay down glos for a night as i cant get anyone to follow me :-(

lol the drama of modding cars

Playalistic, right decision to stick with AP's IMHO

I had K-Sport coilovers fitted to a Skyline I owned - They came off and were sold within the month - Shockingly bad, that was about 5yrs ago, quality may have improved since then. But with brakes I wouldn't take a punt based on lower price (you often get what you pay for!) Especially with brakes I would always buy a long established proven product.

I had to wait about 5wks for my Stoptechs was a very long 5wks but oh so worth it :)

my ultimate favourite brake setups is the alcon super kit, and the stoptech trophy if money was no object........

The AP is an awesome setup, the car stops on a dime once they are hot.......

they haul down anythink my car can throw @ them....

Yeah my thinking too. You'd think they'd at least have BBKs as an option on the list?! Shortsighted at best.
I could never understand why BMW equipped their M products with such poor brakes... Look at the M3 CSL... An M3 that was developed for track use. Why did they not put decent brakes on this car? Strange decisions from BMW.

Did you order the front and rear Ap kit? Most people say that you only need the front AP kit and that the rears don't ad much. I see that you also have oem CSL wheels on your car... I'm really interested to hear if the front AP kit fits without spacers and how much space there is between the caliper and the CSL wheel. Keep us posted please.... :P

I went with both front and rear. Simpsons mentioned the front bias can cause trouble on track under big stops and it makes sense to me anyway. They definitely fit under the CSL wheels no problem.

At first; I did not have a definitive answer if my 19 CSL wheels would fit without spacers with the front AP brake kit CP5575-1010B (Z4M kit with the smaller caliper). I presume you ordered the same kit. I have received a template for the AP brake system that can be used to verify fitment.

The result;

apbrake2mmi.jpg

If I look at the template there is space of only 2mm between the front brake caliper and the CSL wheels. I can just fit the metal lid from a can of soda between the caliper and the wheels. I have talked to some people and they say that the fitment with the CSL wheels is indeed okay without spacers. The space in real life between the CSL wheel and AP caliper should be +/- 3mm. Still interested to hear about your own experience.

The AP dealer i talked to said this about fitting the AP brakes at the front only
The front Z4M kit you are referring to does not shift brake balance forward a massive amount. It is primarily designed for more thermal capacity. While the rear kit provides a more perfect dynamic balance, many customers happily run the front-only system. If you find you need more bite from the rear brakes due to driving style, tire choice, damper settings, etc., there are many pad compounds available that will do just that.

franzino - Simpsons say they've installed stacks of these exact kits on the E46 CSL without any issues and no need for spacers so I'm with them.

Aliv6 - With you on that one. Not just being brand-snobbish either but they've no real pedigree from my research and I didn't fancy being a guinea pig.

For me it would be Brembo's or Alcon's...Whilst i have AP's on the Clio is don't "Rave" about them.

I'd love a set of Alcons, but I wouldn't say no to a similarly sized AP set either.

My first ever set were APs and I loved them, and the discs lasted a good while - although the DS2000 pads I had originally only lasted about a day

My mate's got Alcons on his CSL and they are gorgeous.

Never heard of KSports myself, but a quick google and there seems a bit following from the tuned scobby, evo and skyline brigades.
