Scottish meet - 7/8th August 2010 - Skye!

Just back... Had a great drive back cut over to aberdeenshire via the lecht and aviemore great weekend... Thanks to all particularly ally. Skye this morning stunning.

Some of my memmorys to come away with:-

Almost ploughing into the side of Zermattv at 75mph.
Jimmypop trying to hammer in tentpegs with a walking boot whilst stood next to a small pile of rocks.
The look on Allys face when he realised we weren't getting on the ferry(s) (Priceless)
RichardG trying to look cool whilst wearing a Midge hood.
Mrs Nosa being mugged by a Seagull
Failing to get up whilst it was still dark and stealing RichardG's wheels, Pawns Steering wheel And Jax seats.

Great Trip Ally  The fact we didn't get the ferry for me was all just part of the trip and it means I got to drive the car more than was expected, Even that was not enough, still sneaked in my own wee trip when I took a drive along to Talisker distillery at the back of 6 this mornin, The views were as ZermattV says, Simply stunning.

Just back in the door, stopped in Fort William for about an hour for a coffee etc, we came back via Loch Lomond and got stuck at a couple of roundabouts for about 3/4 of an hour, then the Eskine bridge was shut so we had to weave or way through Glasgow, but then the end made up for it clear run down from Ayr to Castle Douglas.

Great weekend, great roads, great company let's do it again sometime soon.

Roof down most of the weekend and a face like a beetroot.

I'll sort through all of David Bailey's photo's while I'm away, it may take sometime and post the results through the week.

What ferry c*ck up? :D

Well that's me not long in - total round trip of 560 miles. We came back through Fort William for lunch then stopped in Glencoe to do a wee bit of walking. Was great having the top down for two full days (well, almost!).

Highlights:

The evil seagulls in Mallaig
Making sure my 4 pot kept up with all you 6 pots!
Driving the road to the isles, twice!
The look of pure hatred in my lovely other half's eyes at 4am this morning when she hadn't had a wink of sleep. (ok, maybe not a highlight...)

As for my ingenious use of a walking boot Nosa - I had decided to forego a hammer when I packed the car in favour of using a walking boot to save space. I didn't want that good bit of tactical packing to go to waste!

Anyway, gonna look through the photos and post some up. Was a great weekend with great company - how about making it a trip to Fife and thereabouts next time?!

Guys We had a great time, What a great bunch of people to spend a weekend with. Mrs Nosa is already asking if we will be doing something Similar next year.
I will post More pics in the Gallery section tomorrow.
Once again Thanks to Ally for putting this together, Two great days driving through some of the greatest lanscapes in Britain. Good job m8

Also back home safely!

What a cracker of a weekend. Sorry about peeling off and spending a bit more time on Skye - it did seem a shame to miss any of it with having driven up so far, great recommendation on the road though Nosa! We managed to miss the sheep and it was a great drive. We got up as far as Dunvegan then headed back round to Portree and down. Via Invergarry, A86 (which was an unexpected surprise of a road) across to the A9 and then full speed ahead back down to the M6.

Think I've done around a 1000 miles door to door, averaged about 35mpg. The route and camping spot were perfect - great work Ally! The ferry was a great excuse to do that Fort William to Mallaig road again and I've never been a fan of boats, especially ferries :D

I'm totally disappointed however, in two things;
1) I'm totally unscathed midgy-wise (maybe the English don't taste so good?)
2) I have a sun tan

I'm never going to be able to convince anyone I've been roughing it in a tent in the highlands when I turn up to work in the morning looking like I've just had a weeks cruise in the tropics. This could be Matts fault, he seems to have brought the sunshine from the south, I just hope he forgot to pack it on his way home :)

Have lots of pics which I'll try and get online tommorrow - I've not been through them yet so I expect most will be blurry pictures of trees :)

Definitely looking forward to next year! :)

Nosa, You seem to have made a typo here...

Fixed! :)

I really didn't have any idea just how bad the midges were up there, the second we parked up on the site we were swarmed. I covered myself with insect repellant which did seem to work really well. The vision in my right eye is nearly back and I reckon I'll stop being able to taste the stuff in a couple of days too, so a total result! :)

Excellent weekend, excellent driving and fab company - our first forum meet and already looking forward to next -enjoyed every minute - even Mrs Jax driving Maillaig to Fort William - she's promised to do more next time - !!!!(help) - still so full of adrelanin when we got home around 5pm I found time and energy to cut the grass - lawmower seemed a tad underpowered and slow to turn in !!

Apparently I'm due a whole bunch of Z4 mods for Xmas (thanks to the Sky (not Skye) man).

Roof down whole way home with mucho blue sky - just missed you at Dunkeld a11y - seen your back end cross A9 heading for Crieff - thought we might catch someone at Stirling services and parked up next to another silver Z (not one of us though).

Big thanks to Ally for all the organising (loved that road from Spean Bridge today). Respect to all campers in their fight against the manic midges and to the guys with the long drives south - great commitment. Pics to follow... got your note thanks badwollf456

Am home! Well, about an hour ago, just sorted a few bits out and had a shower to get off that pesky midge repellant!

Ally, a frickin' great weekend! Thoroughly enjoyed the drive and company. Had a good blast around Skye this morning and as Siftah mentioned, the road we came left on was fantastic! Just one fast corner after another... an very little traffic - seemed odd having very little to overtake :driving:

Stats:
1,364.6 miles
54.7 MPH (OBC)
33.2 MPG (OBC)
13 bottles of water
1 Bag Jazz Apples
Half a tin of Altoids

Will sort the pics and video tomorrow (that was my day off work to drive home), in the mean time (apologies for the low quality)...

The view from my bedroom window:

All in all, :D + :driving:

Going to try and get some sleep now... probably still too excited.
