Scottish meet - 7/8th August 2010 - Skye!

Gentlemen (and SHMBOs),

Great shots, me and the misses have just been scanning through and loving the scenery (and the Zeds and the photogenic attendees) looks like you all had a cracking time, and shame I had to be in Norfolk that weekend :( .
Nevermind - I'll look out for the next one, and maybe some of you Scots can come to one of the English or Welsh (5 Sept :poke: ) meets sometime.
We'd be up for a longer meet, but would have to fund another Zed to bring the girls with us (don't think the e60 would keep up!) :D

p.s. Nosa, I hope you had written permission to post Mrs R from that angle  "There may be trouble ahead..."!

I used to work for Wood Group in the fire and safety division, and part of our contract was to service all the equipment In the Scottish distillerys, I was reminded when we were on Skye Of How the hairs stood up on the back of my neck the first time I saw Coal isla Distillery on Islay, Again more stunning scenery. Was thinking of maybe going back there next year then thought maybe other members may be up for it. Idea was to catch 1oClock ferry on a Friday, gets us there for just after 3pm, take in a distillery or 2, Saturday Drive round the Island and take in a visit to Coal Isla, Picnic stop on a beach somewhere, and do the tourist thing, Sunday, Breakfast, Shopping etc Catch 1 o clock ferry back to Kennecraig, I will almost certainly looking to do this next year regardless of if it turns into a Meet or not But would be ace if we could flood the Island with Zs.

There I was Guiseley Taking shots of The cars when she suddenly appeared from Nowhere.......Honest......

Richard and his better half were great company and after seeing the size of Richard the last thing I would want to do is annoy him, When I first spoke to him I had to try really hard not to finish every sentence with "Sir"

the relaxed approach to the drives :driving:
hmmm... might have to adjust your pace settings if you come to the Welsh meets then - SammyZ's leading has never been described as 'relaxed' , 'road race' is more along the right lines! (when the roads permit obviously).

I really like the sound of this - despite having never acquired the taste for whisky (I kept that quiet over the weekend in case I was booted back over the border!)

:)

Nosa - sounds like a plan - sign me up for it right now!

Would be great to to organise another meet later on this year - it's always a pleasure to take the old girl out on some nice roads. And it's a treat to take the car out as well! (I hope Mrs Pop hasn't found this site yet...) :?

The pace was definitely quick enough, on the Sunday I got "held up" by two bikers on Fireblades coming back along the A87. Ok, they weren't going flat-out, but I certainly used a lot more of the performance of the car than I ever do usually :)

Some of the corners on that road are *gloriously* open, you can see right through them before you start to turn-in and take a nice wide line, it makes for very fast progress :)

The A863 to Dunvegan that Nosa recommended was much the same, if you wanted to, you could have quite easily slid the car around some of those bends without any fear of endangering anybody but yourself, great open sweeping bends where you could clearly see right through and around them. Total driving heaven, a weekend of evo moments.

The highlands are great for a meet as the roads are considerably less busy than we have in the Lakes or Wales at this time of year. It meant it was a lot easier to stay in a group and we even managed to overtake large numbers of cars without getting too far split up. Even if you did, the next meeting point was always easy to find and you couldn't go wrong with the routes as we were generally on "main roads" between two places.

Ally had picked places that were easy to meet up at too, so it was easy to get split up then find each other at the meeting points - made for a very relaxed (although, very fast) drive and a great weekend :)

When Nosa pops "the Magnum", you'll know about it, even through his midgie hood! ;)

Funny you say that, Mrs Nosa was saying someone should start a Z4 widows forum.

Oh just wait until my photos are uploaded. That's all I'll say for now...

My Z has always been affectionatly called "Vroom Vroom" By me and Family, She now has an AKA after the weekend "The Magnum" Decided it Killed at least 1k + Midgies, and other assorted bugs, Front end was covered.

Maybe Jimmypop should name his "The Midge" :poke: :driving:

Just been speaking to SWMBO and she want's to know when we are doing it again, she had a really great time despite all her reservations.

As for my small commute this weekend I got away Ok, 01:30 came round far to quickly, not much on the roads going to the airport though.

Here are a sample of some of the photo's Snappy Happy MrsG took, I will put some more in an album and post a link or put loads in the gallery there are just too many to choose from.

But what was this prat playing at

We are actually going to go back up there in a fortnight when I get back, and hopefully get the ferry over this time and explore the island a bit more.

Come on, "The Magnum" would not be seen anywhere near those daisies you call wheels!

Oh, and looks like I've been rumbled - just had a disapproving text from SWMBO for calling her an old girl...

On a more serious note (well, not really!) seeing all of your cars has made me more determined to do a bit more to my car! Just need the resources to fund it...

Richard - good for you. Are you planning on staying in that mansion you call a tent again!?

I was laughing hard when this picture was taken and it's even funnier seeing it now.

That's not a midgie net by the way, that was Nosa with a stocking over his head ready to do an armed raid on the distillery the next morning...

It was either 4am, 5am or 6am, we're not sure, he kept giving different times to throw the police of the scent, so I heard...

;)

Mrs ZermattV has just asked on seeing the Midge Hoods (particularly impressed by Mrs Nosas fetching pink number) - " You didn't drive wearing those things did you?"

:o

OK - here's some more photos for the massive album.

2011 trip to Islay sounds good - will the bridge be built by then ?
Glad everyone enjoyed themselves - including the girls who should all drive a section next meet then no need for a widows forum !!

That's the plan, but a mansion pah! tis more a small compact bejue des res with amazing views, fortunately my good lady was not put off in quite the same as yours, though she wants seperate airbeds this and still draws the line at cooking on a camp stove apart from coffee and a bacon butty for breaky .

Toying with taking a slow drive to Fort William then spending the night there and waking up to views of Ben Nevis, then across to Skye via the Mallaig Ferry, then third left, forth right, second left and straight on till morning and see where we end up.

Ah we've managed to compromise - she's happy (ok, willing) to give it another shot as long as we take an airbed and hair straighteners!
