Scottish meet - 7/8th August 2010 - Skye!

Great photos so far folks :)

Siftah and PawnSacrifice: superb effort on your part to travel all the way up from down south for this meet - I hope it was worth it!

Took you twice ally. Oh but "you only go fast on the twisty bits"! MA BUM! p.s. It was a poxy Renault van don't paint all white van drivers with the same brush.
Aahhh, that's where the "Mr Twisty" name came from . Got to admit I've not actually heard a 6-pot (or any) Z4 pass me at full chat before - yours sounded amazing as you tore past me that time, I think these cars perhaps sound better outside that inside. The other time I think there was too much wind/road noise to hear the engine as much (on the road to Mallaig). Even Jo commented that these cars sound very nice.

Siftah, good set of photos - there's a couple in there that you'd never think were Scottish/British roads

just missed you at Dunkeld a11y - seen your back end cross A9 heading for Crieff
Argh, never mind! We ran into (not literally!) Nosa and Mrs Nosa in Dunkeld but Jo and me headed for a leisurely lunch in The Taybank. Hung around for a bit longer but didn't think you guys would've caught us up! We'd stopped a few times enroute from Skye though including a long stop in Laggan to check out the Wolftrax MTB trails which look good.

Still to sort out the photos but will try and get mine done and uploaded tonight.

Who's organising the next one?
Ally

like Jimmypop's idea if fife... next time well volunteered that man...

Some food for thought for it

http://www.openroadhire.co.uk/route/Route%2019.php

I'll check my diary for dates perhaps in october ? ...............If I'm free I'll even help Jimmy organise it

Highlights:

1. Ally directing me to a petrol station in Falkirk at 10:15 at night when the fuel gauge was showing 3 miles.
2. Seeing Nosa'a Maldives Blue against the atlantic on the sunny road to Mallaig in the rear view mirror.
3. Driving through Rannoch Moor on a sunny day.
4. Tour de Skye with Pawn Sacrifice and Siftah.
5. The Skye Bridge Sunday Morning Just terrific.

Fife? Fife? :tumbleweed: Are you guys havin a laugh. Main reason I bought Z was so i could use the best roads in Fife, those are the ones leading out of it. You do know the place is full of Fifers yeah!!!

EDIT. Oh I get it, you think if you have one in Fife I am unlikely to want to come and therefore all your cars won't look as bad without my Superb car with it's adequatly sized daisy wheels to show you all up.

Well worth it - I remember that part of the world being pretty but it still caught me a little by surprise, stunning scenery all weekend and still amazed at the weather. It's raining again in Manchester and my sunburn hurts :)

I was surprised there was any keepers considering how randomly I was pointing and shooting - in the end I had to choose the best ones as they all looked great! :)

The only shame is that I was only taking photos when the roads were less twisty and we were driving slowly :)

+1

Probably my favourite meet to date, well worth the journey - and I've been on some great meets this year. As for the ferry, meh, did us a favour if you ask me :D

Wasn't sure about it at first, but I really enjoyed the relaxed approach to the drives :driving:

And yes, I went to Scotland and caught the sun! Nosa, your weather forecasting is rubbish :poke: Were spot on about the midges though :(

Agree, some great shots there folks

Perhaps the next Scottish meet could be the south part of the country, maybe the roads south of Edinburgh or on the other side of the M74 in Dumfriesshire - would be closer to allow some of the Northern Z4-forumers to join in? Only problem I don't know many of the good roads in the south of Scotland. I know one or two south of Edinburgh and as far south as Moffat/Duns area, but I'm at a loss for the other side.

Forgot to post my 2 favourite shots

Richards Clear spots look great If only Mrs Richard Hadn't got in the way
SkyeRoadTrip076.jpg

And this one, Mrs Nosa took this One...WTF.. :?

Zermattv - you're right. Rannoch Moor on the way home was superb. Coming out of Glencoe and seeing that road open out in front of you is something special. I had the biggest grin on my face - thought the top of my head was going to fall off!

Anyway, back to reality today - fighting with payroll over unpaid shifts and fighting with student loans company who seem to have lost my entire last tax year's contributions!

Sounds like everyone had a good drive on the Sunday, Siftah and Co taking the Dunvegan road, Jimmypop through Glencoe, Richard stuck in traffic for 3/4 hour...... Ok maybe not everyone. (Hope you got off ok today Richard  )

We took the turn off at Spean bridge and took The ??? Road (cant remember road No.) then across to Dalwhinny Distillery, except for a couple of camper vans road was almost empty, great drive, then a chance to really open her up on the dual carriageway bits on the A9 to Dunkeld. We had not noticed That Ally and Jimmypop had turned off at Eilan Donan castle. So right up untill we met them in Dunkeld we thought they had been in front of us, which also made me think My God they have really gone for it as I didn,t see them again. And that was from just after we left Kyle of Lochalsh.

This was my Second meet with forum members and both have been excellent with Great driving roads and scenery. On both occasions all peope on the meet have been great without exception. Mrs Nosa is becoming a wee bit of a meet addict. Which is great as she is not quite as disapproving when I want to part with cash for the car  Although she did overhear a conversation some of us were having in the pub about how we had been completely happy with our cars up untill we joined this forum

Anyway Point I was going to make was Both meets have been Great and Both organised by Ally (Raises glass and nods in Allys direction) And we are BOTH very much looking forward to the next meet. Whoever organises the next one ,, The bar has been set..

 I'm going to have take note of that and try my hardest not to "control my banter" towards you Nosa...

The road from Spean Bridge to Dalwhinnie is the A86 (I think, without looking at Googlemaps). It's always near enough empty compared to the A82, particularly during holiday weekends and is generally more fun as a result. Just a shame it spits you onto the A9 which is ALWAYS nose-to-tale. But then at least there's the option to go cross-country via Crieff, etc to avoid Perth. I was in a queue approaching Spean Bridge and must've been the only car out of 15 or so that turned left towards Dalwhinnie instead of continuing south to Fort William.

I think the A86 was the road Siftah and I took - fantastic tarmac, very few cars and plenty of places to pass the ones we did encounter, lovely quick 4th / 5th gear road :driving: We, I think, then we on the A889 down to the A9... a lot twistier, braking and then firing yourself at the next corner :D We both enjoyed those even though, as you say, you then end up on the A9. It was worth it.

Honestly, Ally, was surprised how much I enjoyed this meet - went because it was somewhere different and your pics look good, but really was something else, the A86 on the way home was completely unexpected and a real bonus

Food for thought this week. Would anyone be up for a 2 nighter to Islay Summer 2011.  :?

A86 and then A889 is the route we took, we went past the Eilean Donan castle and took the same route back as we had earlier - I think we sort-of followed Allys' route but then we stayed on the A9 at Dunkeld and missed the last bit :\

I wonder if there'd be more interest from the southern contingent for a longer meet?

Considering the weather we had, I was disappointed I'd not continued with the thought of going further up towards Applecross and lengthening my trip - so many roads, so little time!
