New TopGear tonight 8pm BBC2

Clarkson & Co should do a series opener on Amazon of the three of them watching that pish gogglebox style.

At least that would probably be funny :)

Just put it on iplayer now - what a load of shite.

Firstly, Evans couldn't be more different than Clarkson. Why he is trying to emulate him and carry on where the 3 left off is beyond me.

I hope this gets axed and I will be reaching for my long card number to subscribe to Amazon after summer.

All said before. Woeful, missed opportunity, retreading an old format that belong to the old crew. Evans is just so annoying and there seems no connection between any of the team.

Will give it another episode to settle down, but it makes you realise the show was as much about the interaction of the 3 amigos than any cras stunt or adventure they played out in cars..

I thought it was OK and will watch some more. They deserve more of a chance. I don't enjoy Evans' self-promotion either and he is a bit shouty but a lot of the format has passed into the national conscience so it was always going to be a difficult reprisal of the old show. I certainly recall things getting a bit cringey with the former presenters so will be keen to see how they develop this over the episodes. I think if I gave the old boys 20 series' watching time, I can give the new boys one series. There's not a lot to challenge it on my TV anyway...although YouTube fills many of those gaps.

It was a bit lack lustre _ Evans spent a lot of time trying to whip up the crowd !
I'll probably watch it again tho to give it a fair chance,

Just a thought...
The BBC, Evans, LeBlanc etc. knew they were going to have a difficult job keeping the same format and replacing Clarkson, Hammond & May with new presenters. To this end, if they were sensible, they'd have wanted to make sure that the first show was as strong a statement as they could make and would have cherry-picked the best segments

So... what if that first show really is the best they can do?

Pretty much echo what others have said- disappointing first episode, that's for sure.

Evans shouty, and trying Clarkson mannerisms (and failing).

Matt Le Blanc seemed bored, flat and more wooden than a big forest.

Which he failed at. The audience looked a little bored and any applause from them didn't seem to have any conviction to it.

The pilot helped me come to conclusions..

1) Chris Evans irritates me as much as I thought he would. I really don't like Chris evans. He's too annoying kids presenter. Maybe I'll hate him less with time.
2) I Like Matt in a wierd way.
3) I like Sabine in most ways.
4) I need a viper. Badly.
5) I like Sabine.

I'll still watch it, despite the ginger hate, glad to have some petrol back in my mondays  But it wasn't great..

I thought he (Evans) could have got some mileage from the catering comment early in the show - probably scared of the lawyers!

The next episode will also be the same because it's already been filmed. I think we'll see a change come the 3rd episode.

Probably still be s**t thou

No matter how bad it is it's still better than a crappy period drama that stalks Sunday nights.

+1

Having read all the dreadful reviews on here I just watched it on iPlayer. Thought my very low expectations may have given the show a chance, but alas, I pretty much agree with the general consensus: I thought Chris was way too shouty and because it followed the same old format I found myself missing the old presenters. I think Matt LeBloke was ok actually, I liked his dry sense of humour and one-liners, but overall I won't be putting the show in my diary :( (i don't have a diary, but you know what I mean)

Half way through and had to stop. It's TFI Friday with Cars, surprised the crowd didn't have pint/wine glasses in their hands. Quite like the cross country stars/driving bit, good idea.

Chris Evans isn't happy at the criticism...

The new Top Gear is a hit. OFFICIALLY. 23% audience share. 12% MORE than the opening episode of the last series. These are the FACTS

Top Gear audience grew throughout the hour. FACT. Won its slot. FACT. Still number one on iPlayer. FACT. These are THE FACTS folks.
He doesn't seem to realise that these 'FACTS' (he even shouts when he's writing) could just as easily be explained by people watching the first episode because of the hype and out of curiosity to see how 'different' it was from the C, H & M era, and people who missed it are now watching it on iPlayer to see if it's as bad as everyone says...

Just watched it. I can't cope with his voice, that shrill shouting the whole time.

Matt was better than expected, so that was a positive. The track with the dirt part is a good choice and makes a change.

What happened to the other presenters though?
