To save corrupting DGW's for sale thread, I'll continue my rant here...
I believe the current potential buyers are simply using anything they can find as a negotiation tool to get me to sell my car much more cheaply than I want to.

Unfortunately it isn't going to work, as I know how little needs doing on the car, and those bits are being done over the next couple of weeks (e.g being detailed, two stone chips being repaired, metal valve caps ready to go on, fuel cap 'rubber wire' ready to be replaced). The driver's sillplate isn't being replaced as the ding is almost invisible.

Even the scheduled brake fluid and coolant changes that are 'missing' from the service book. The car doesn't need a coolant change as the engine is only 18 months old, not 4 years, but I'm going to get it done to appease potential buyers. Same goes for the brake fluid change, as it was replaced with DOT 4.1 about 14 months ago when I put on new discs & pads.

There does seem to be a lot of clowns about, I had one bloke telling me, "my car was to expensive because it would cost the same at main dealer", I spoke to him on the phone as I checked said website and it was complete rubbish, my car was a lot cheaper than the dealers. He counted with, “well I'd knock 2K off the dealer’s prices". I find this unlikely in my experience. The most I have ever knocked off was 1000 pounds and before that the most was 500 quid. I went to have a look at a M3 just before Christmas and the dealer would only reduced the price by a few hundred pounds, certainly not 2K.
The joys of selling a car privately. :D

January really is a slow month....
I don't know. I've had more calls in the last 2 weeks than I had in the last 3 months of 2010.

Although everyone seems to be put off by the new engine, so it looks like I should have just kept my mouth shut and got BMW to repair the fault (and not disclosing it to a buyer) rather than insisting on a complete new engine and being honest :headbang:
It would bother me... I don't exactly know why... but I'd feel like the car wasn't the same. :(

It's psychological, as you think that something that's been unreliable will continue to be unreliable—which it will be if you haven't replace the unreliable parts—and that something that has been 'repaired' is worth less than something that is original.

In this case, the 'unreliable' bit has been replaced, but the psyche can't remove the 'unreliable' tag.

Otherwise every car on there that's had something done to the roof motor, rear springs, oxygen sensor, etc. has an inherently unreliable car - to which everyone will rightfully argue that those problems have been fixed and they should reoccur. Same goes for the engine, but as it's a big item it seems to be harder to let go.

I'm not trying to sell the new engine as a benefit over others that haven't had a new engine, but I'd also like it to not be seen as a negative. I'd just like it to be seen as equal to others - after all mine's had no rear springs or oxygen sensors replaced.

Being 'worthless' is a great excuse not to sell it though :P

Some will see that as a negative. If the springs haven't been replaced, they probably will need replacing soon :).Hence car worth £350 less (approx cost for two).
Just kidding of course

I know exactly what you mean. I have had people calling me up saying the car is far to expensive and they can get one in the dealer with the same spec and mileage for £18K. How does this make mine expensive? I hope you get the sale you want your car looks impressive.

That's fine, but there'd be no negotiation room on that as the car comes with a £0 excess BMW insured warranty.

Just a few comments on some of the posts above. A seller wants to get as much money as he can for his car, a buyer wants to buy the car as cheaply as he can. Negotiation entails which ensures an agreed upon price somewhere in the middle and everybody is reasonably happy. If the need to sell is great the seller has to compromise more than the buyer and the sale price is lower. If there are more buyers than sellers the buyer ends up paying more than he would like to make the buy. This is why some buyers will make a low bid for a car, they aren't trying to insult anybody just trying to get the best deal possible for themselves. Also, if you buy from a dealer you get certain guarantees that are laid down by law that you wouldn't get if you bought from a private individual so the dealer price is a bit higher to cover their possible additional costs and their overheads so the dealer price is usually higher, all things being equal. I've been looking for a while for the right Z4MC and have seen a wide range of prices for similar cars. I would prefer to buy from a dealer, but would be willing to buy privately if the deal is right. At the end of the day if I think a car is too expensive I can walk away and if the buyer isn't willing to come down to a price that isn't acceptable to him he doesn't have to sell. I've seen a main dealer reduce his price by £3k (I just missed that one!) to get a sale and another who would only give a £500 discount, and this was in the past 2 weeks. Sorry about the long post but all buyers aren't jokers and sellers aren't doing us a favour by selling us their cars. mmm-five good luck with the sale, I know it's the wrong time of year to sell but your car looks like a good one, just a bit too far away from me.

What is an expensive bottle of sweet champagne? I'm looking for a nice bottle of champagne, but I don't want to drop $200 on something I'm not going to like! Are champagnes like Cristal and Dom Perignon sweet? Would I like it? I don't like the Korbel Brut but I like Martini & Rossi Asti and love Andre Spumante. Thanks!

:?

Sorry, but it's non-vintage, it's just a 2006 with a bit of character.

Obviously confusing 'champagne' interior, with 'champagne' the drink.

Mine comes with one, but not the other. However, I can include a bottle of prosecco and a bouquet of flowers for the missus for an extra £50.

Priced to sell now mmm-five, looks a lovely example and the pics are better I think. I've been looking for a month or so now (can't shift my E46 M3 vert, it is SLOW out there...) and I'd say you should get a pic up with the nav popped up and in action just to ram home the fact it's got nav. Personally I'd remove the pics (and stickers) from the rear quarter in case some people think it's been mercilessly tracked... Just a thought mate, and best of luck with the sale

Well it's probably been 'on track' as much as Beedub's/Sixspeed's/Flatout's BUT only to drive to a marshal post to be parked as the stickers are Marshal's Club stickers and are just on the car to facilitate speedy entry into race circuits where I'm marshalling, without having to queue up with the paying public.

Still think I'll remove them - or just Photoshop them out - for now, to save having to explain it.

I thought the market was slow but took me 4 hours to sell my RRS on PIstonheads yesterday....if it's the right price, and I really mean the best price, then it's worth letting a few people see it and take the best offer. I went £200 below the ad price. Bloody miserable now it's gone!

What a nice car - great shame you're having to sell it. :(

It's hard to believe a car in this condition and with this specification hasn't sold, even at a price a higher than the current one.

Your seats look great. What do you clean them with?

Don't have to do much other than dust for the passenger seat, but the driver's seat takes a light damp cloth every week or so, and occasionally a bit of Zymol leather cleaner.

There are tiny bits on the very edges where there are little bits of the leather paint have come off, but they're 1-2mm bits and difficult to see on the photos.

Many thanks for the quick reply mmm-five. I'll need to see if I can make my 'champagnes' look like yours.

If the car has to go, I hope the sale goes smoothly.
