E89 Market watch

I have been looking very closely at 992's since their launch in the Spring and I have to say they are stunning. They have of course recently added the Carrera to the line up with a base price of about £83K. You would need to spend around a further £12K on options but its a brand new 911 at sub £100K. Talking about second hand values, 981 GTS' seem to be going for strong money with low mileage well specced cars selling pretty quickly.

I've been looking at 2012 e89 2.0's but the 2.3 from about 2010 seem about 4K less .. and you get a 6 cylinder engine.. Is it the running cost that has them sell for about 8K or just that they are older?

I suspect it's the age more than anything else.

Just been looking online, you can get 2012 or 2013 20i with about 70k or 80k miles for around 7 to 9K GBP similar mileage but older 23i start around 6.5K to 8K so not much difference really although older you get that lovely 6 cylinder. Although some might argue you can easily tune the 20i for more power.

You only live once. Get the 6 banger. I love my 3.0 manual Zed. My wife would be jealous if she knew just how much.
Seriously - I drove the 2.3 auto and I thought 'this isn't too bad but,...' so I hunted down a 2010 3.0 manual and boy howdy, I am just tickled with it.

Wouldn't a mapped 20i bring up to the same BHP level as 28i? in which you case you may as well go for the 30i since it has similar performance but you get that silky smooth 6 cylinder and that fantastic sound track! :driving: (better then the 23i). I would say you only live once go for the 6 cylinder get a 30i. That's 2 against 1 Rob

Not sure why the 30i NA straight six will make a better noise than a 25i NA straight six?

The 20i is remapped to be around 30bhp more than the 30i..

Plus the 4 pot is lighter and sits entirely behind the front axle making a sweeter handling car..

Smoothness and balance wise the N20 engine is as smooth if not more so due to technical magic ie dual balance shafts

So the 30i has ‘ a better sound’ but nothing else over a re mapped 20i..

Having followed now for 3 years many many 6 pot Z4s I’m not convinced of the 6 pot sound issue..

Of course your opinions are as valid as mine..

Mapped 20i can top the 28i and also produces a shed load more torque than the 30i, you get more shove without having to rev the conkers off it

Looks crap in the engine bay though... JMHO! :poke:

although obviously you can't see that when the bonnet is closed... :D

Always banter on here against the 4pot turbo’s Rob, luckily most owners tick the “thick skin” option when purchasing

The 30i sounds sweeter then the 23i, not sure why but it just does. I was told this exact same thing by my local BMW dealer when I was trying to decide which to get and only believed it when I tried the two myself. But thinking about this it has always been the case, if you look back at previous BMWs the larger capacity engine always sounds better. e.g 320i 330i in the E46 or the E30 320 and 325i etc. I have tried also the 28i and it just doesn't have the aural pleasure of the straight 6 and is not as smooth, its not bad but it just isn't as smooth. It did feel a bit lighter due to that smaller lighter engine but for me part of the driving experience is the aural soundtrack that you just can't beat with the straight 6. Just my opinion of course the bit about 4 pot v 6 pot.

Whatever floats your boat, man. Just get in it and go.
I think we can agree life is too short. :D
Quite happy with my 3.0 and Remus :P

Anyone able to advise on an mot result if I PM it to them?

No need to PM

Do wheels crack easily enough ? It's possible to drive with two cracked wheels?

Yes a couple of 19" wheels are prone to cracking, lots of threads on the forum about it and no you shouldn't drive with cracked wheels that is why its an MOT failure. Saying that this particular the wheels must have been either repaired or replaced since subsequent MOTs show no faults.
