Z4MR - Unreasonable Deal??

I'd have bought this by now and be enjoying the unseasonably warm weather we are having. Life's too short and if it is the right car just buy the damn thing and stop quibbling over a few hundred quid. :driving:

Maybe where you are, I had to de-ice my windscreen last week :)

It's not just a few hundred quid though, a dealer Inspection II is around £900. £15k is already at the very top of my budget, those priced above that don't seem to be selling.

Just seen you're in Scotland! Okay, I'll let you off on that score!

You should be able to get an Inspection 2 down to £700 if you shop around and haggle. How long is it before the I2 is needed? My e86M has done 36k and is still 11k away from I2 according to the OBC.

Not up here you won't OG - we are talking 60-70 miles between Dealerships and then they are owned by the same group!

I know you're a lot further North than Glasgow Zermatt, but if you are Glasgow or further South it might be worth using Batemans. They were really cheap when I got quotes for an I1. The only reason I didn't use them was distance from me (200 miles away). I did though, use their quote to haggle Sytner Nottingham down to something similar.

The problem is the mpg- you don't have to go far before any saving is eaten up in fuel costs- in the end the local dealership was cheaper than the Edinburgh dealerships- bizarrely the invoiced cost was 100 cheaper than the quote.

Batemans looked good though and I'm toying with using Lakeland a Landrover for the RRS so it is worth travelling.

I know you are saying that 15k is the top of your budget, but you are planning all sorts of mods no doubt knowing you that would add '000 to the car anyway. I would get it whilst you can ...

Stop it! :)

I can't actually remember when the Insp 2 is due, I think June next year... I'll call again on Wed.

Insp II is not time based, it is mileage so how would you know it is June .... ?

I don't 100%, but at a guess, if it's done an average of less than 6k a year, it will be serviced by time ( years) rather than miles.

So I'm guessing..

June 06 Run in Service
June 08 Oil Service
June 10 Insp1
June 12 Oil Service
June 14 Insp 2.

I know the Insp 2 is due next, they told me that.

What PVR means is that the inspections are not time based, whereas the oil services could be time or mileage.

Effectively you could have a servicing schedule that follows:

Oil service
Inspection 1
Oil service
oil service
oil service
oil service
oil service
Inspection 2

The "pattern" of OS, Insp 1, OS, Insp 2 is not set. The inspections are carried out dependent upon mileage and driving style.

Ordinarily Insp 1 is carried out around 20-25k miles and Insp 2 around 40-50k miles.

However, many BMW dealers aren't aware of this and merely follow the basic pattern.

The downside of following things properly is that you could end up carrying out an OS next June and then the car may require an Insp 2 in the August.

Hope this clears it up a bit.

Interesting... didn't know that, it's not very logical mind you.

All of the cars I've looked at so far following the OS, Inp1, OS, Inp2, OS.... routine. To be honest I'd prefer a car like this.

Low mileage cars that are only used occasionally will get an oil service or two between inspections as the oil/brake service is time based not mileage.

My inspection 2 is due in 10K miles according to the OBC, so around 2-3 yrs for me, I've just had oil/brake service so I'll have another in 2 yrs if I've not hit the inspection service mileage.

Exactly the same for me too.

I'd ask them to take some photos of the service book and send them to you - you need to be really clear on this point to make sure they are not glossing over any inconsistencies by being vague, which it sounds like they are being. May not be anything sinister of course, just lack of care in their description to you.

Asking the question will also come across as a 'buying signal' to them and they may bite. Shame they didn't try to do a deal today on the last day of the quarter :(

Yeah I will call tomorrow. I need to get it clear in my head. Spoken to so many owners...

The won't need to meet targets in Sept, he'd sold 44 cars this month with the new plate. Next month maybe, plus he's away on holiday so will sell less cars.

However, I had a call from a seller of a car I viewed at the begining of the month saying he's do me a great deal. He's only 65 miles away (that's close in Scotland terms). 2006 Interlagos (not my favourite) with 56k miles. It has every option I'm looking for, plus more. Was up at £12800, can sell it for £11800. MOT runs out this month (he's need to MOT) and and tax end of Jan.

Service History.
1108 03-11-06 Run in
13031 09-11-07 Oil
26093 09-01-09 Insp 1
38908 18-10-10 Oil
51987 24-01-13 Insp 2

Seem solid enough. He just had an O2 sensor replaced.

Thoughts?

Good solid colour for an M , I'm always a bit baffled by the servicing but I would have expected it to have had something done October 12 rather than Jan 13 as its gone past the two years.

What are the tyres like? - is the interior in good nick?

My other option is this which a mate in London can check out for me.

http://www.pistonheads.com/classifieds/used-cars/bmw/z4m-roadster/2006-z4-m-roadster--low-mileage--high-spec/1593572

Need two new front tyres and an Inspection 2 next may. Only has the middle sound system.

It's 'only' 3 months late though - how much of an issue is that ? Car *may* have been garaged over winter with it being in Scotland... Though of course it's still winter in January :slaphead:

Still winter in April usually :D

It will be 2 or 3 weeks until the winter tyres are back on the 5 series.

Yeah it's gone over a little, but miles is ok, that doesn't worry me too much.

Well.... it would need 4 new tyres. The chap was intending on trading it in, so just put 4 brand new budget tyres on to get it through the MOT and trade it in at the end of this month. So annoying in a way. He would of put decent tyres on it had he not ordered a new 335d.
