z4m sprint championship on going times/progression..

I'm pretty certain it logs max speed etc but tbh I very rarely pull data from it as I don't have an sd card reader , Simpson fitted it as I needed it to get all the gauges working correctly , particularly the wide band unit.

It's a very cool piece of equipment .

may have the proper compound road legal slicks on as well by then....

if i have the correct compound, hoping to get a 1.26 and push into the 1.25 by the end of the day....... lets see..... will update with feedback and pics in this thread :-)

Fair enough, though if you want to be quicker analysing the output from the data logger will really help. Especially if you can compare data with others who are faster than you. It's the VMins that will really show where time can be found.

I remember a post on Northloop ages ago of the Nordshcleife layout overlaid with the VMins and VMaxs of various cars/drivers - very enlightening.

little update in this thread as some sen to be interested, their was another day last week but sadly i couldn't attend, namely as it was fully booked for the day and i wasn't able to commit early enough, my class added a TTRS and another 135i, i still hold the top spot.

Still on the road compound tyres and WILL be getting on the proper semi slick track compound for the next event where i will going all out for a 1.26ish time.... i fully expect to shave off a decent amount of time .

anyhow heres the commentary and times from the event i missed!

A massive mix of cars. I think that's what most people's first impressions would be when it comes to SaT. The 31st was no different, and we had everything from a BMW I3, to a 911 GT3. Another massively enjoyable day, with battles taking place throughout the entry.

I'd also like to welcome Nigel Pugh to SaT. Nige will be taking up the role of instructor on our days. Many of you will be familiar with his Lotus liveried Caterham R500, and black 911. His job is to help you all take the tenths off your times, and will help where possible. So please feel free to approach him, he's happy to help in any way he can.

Before I start the round up, I just want to mention the next date. August, is fully booked, which means we are now taking bookings for September. The September date is the 18th. So please book ASAP as I can see it booking up quickly.

Right, to the 'summary'

Specialist Production
First, and comfortably FTD was chief instructor bloke Nigel Pugh in his familiar Caterham R500. Nige set a time of 1'22.4, and is still trying to find a way of catching Daniel in his similar car, but for the moment remains in 2nd place in class. Second was Scott Allwood, who was on his 3rd day in a row with us. He lowered his PB by an impressive 1.6 seconds to a 1'32.9. Third, was Scott's son Clem, who was easing closer and closer to his dad, and ended the day with a very respectable 1'34.5.

Supercar
A very welcome addition to the day (I don't think James was without a passenger all day!) was James Parkin's lovely 997 Porsche 911 GT3 CS. (club sport) This was the first time he'd used the car on our track, and it certainly made an impression on everyone who went in it. The flat 6 sounded absolutely wonderful, and the car powered James to 2nd in class, and 2nd FTD with a 1'27.8.

Road going/track based sports and saloon cars
The most competitive class of the day? First up was James Slater in his stripped EP3 Civic Type-R. Although he'd done no power modifications, nothing was standard when it came to the handling set up. This proved to be a good decision as he not only won his class, he equalled the class record too! James set a 1'29.4 which he wasn't best pleased with as he wanted to own the number one spot! Second was Ben Weaver who managed to go quicker in the wet than the dry in his 172 engined MK1 clio. He set a time of 1'31.8. Ben also succeeded in beating his friend Sonny, who was third in his 172 with a 1'32.9. Fourth was iAndy in his very well set up 172, he set a time of 1'33.9. Fifth was Harry in his 106 rallye. He was having gear ratio issues throughout the day, but was absolutely flying in the afternoon, and set an impressive 1'34.5 in what is a smaller engined car than most of his competitors. Finally was Steve's redtop engined Corsa B. It was the cars first proper run in anger, and Steve certainly learned a lot about the car. He'll be back with a 'few little bits' sooner rather than later. The final time was a 1'35.7.

Over two litre class
A lot of regulars battled it out on the over two litre class, one of those Being Ross Pierpoint in his tuned BMW M135i. Ross had recently sold his E92 M3, and his replacement was certainly not lacking when it came to outright pace. Ross won the class with a time of 1'30.6, which puts him fourth overall. The next four places were split by less than a second! Ed lead the chasing pack in Boxster with a 1'32.0, and he was very closely followed by Rich Harman (944 turbo) and Mark Chambers (MR2 Turbo) who set a 1'32.5 to finish equal third. Fourth, and just another two tenths behind was Joe Grainger in his recently acquired E36 M3. Fifth in class was Paul Goodridge in his lovely Audi TT-RS. His fastest time was set with Nige on board, and he scraped a massive three seconds off with a little bit of instruction. He finished with a 1'35.6

1600-2 litre class
Raymond Chan improved massively in the EK civic to take the class win, and edge closer to his target (Paul Hammant's) time with a 1'31.3. Bede in his Clio 197 will be chuffed with his performance. He improved on his old time by nearly three seconds with a 1'34.7. Jeff Heath was second in his Toyota GT86, frustratingly not being able to improve on his PB, and losing an overall place to Bede in the process.

Upto 1600cc class
First was the very determined Chez Barby in his MK1 MX5. Chez was getting immensely frustrated with himself, but ironed out all the mistakes throughout the day and slowly got quicker and quicker. A 1'36.5 puts him second overall in class. Ross Pierpoint was at it again, this time finishing second, in a somewhat unconventional car. The Electric BMW I3, his daily commuting car was a bizarre site on track, but also quite quick. Ross managed a time of 1'37.7

How it effects everything is below, thanks for reading!

Very interesting, keep them coming  ...although I'll have to read it later or I'll be late for work!

thankyou, I'm back out soon and will be going for under 1.27.....

as usual ill report back , i want that trophy at the end of the year!! After the new tyres are on I'm going to start making some changes to the suspension setup to yield a-little more grip from the rear, front feels locked in!! Sill only my 3rd attempt at the new layout with essentially fast road compound tyres .... i need more practice and more guts!! both are coming along in equal measure! its been so much fun to stop tinkering with the car and actually put the thing on the circuit and use it, so many of these tuned up cars seem to get built and sold on afterwards, I'm also really pleased to report the supercharger setup can take everything i can throw it , its definitely reliable for anyone that is crazy enough to DD it with the 500+ kits on.... for me the kit has more than proved its up to the task..

The only thing thats holding me back now is the current tyres ( which are incredible for a road unit and i would recommend to anyone), coming out the hairpin i can wheel-spin through 2nd and 3rd so I'm really having to metre out the power to spin the wheels just ahead of the road speed which is very difficult with how fast everything comes up, we are also going to start touring around the different sprint circuits late this summer.

The TTRS sound ace on the video clips i have been sent but simply wasn't agile enough and understeered heavily, the 997.2 GT3 Club-sport again just looked devastating out on track from the videos I've been sent!!

I'm REALLY tempted to break my own rules and go for a mega tyre again like the cup 2 or even a trofeo R.

was very excited to receive this email...

Gentlemen (& Ladies!),

Things have definitely progressed a lot since we started organising our days at Curborough nearly 2 years ago – so much so that we’ve sourced a new venue for you all to enjoy!

The venue is called Throckmorton; it’s an old airfield near Pershore with plenty of room for us to have a play so here’s the plan:

The fee will be £80 per car (again, an additional £20 per extra driver), so a little more than Curborough but this is a much larger venue and we feel still very cheap for the amount of tracktime you’ll get.

We’ll be using 2 main areas of the airfield:

1 is the main runway, we’ll be using this for high speed runs so you’ll really be able to push your car to speeds that you simply can’t do at Curborough.

The other area is part of the access road, which we have converted to a sprint circuit (again which will be timed and recorded.

The day will run in a loop-like format, so you’ll essentially be getting 2 events in one. The “start point” will be the sprint circuit section, then you’ll continue slowly around past the congregation area (we’re very keen to keep the atmosphere we have at Curborough) to the start of the runway for the high speed section of the day. Upon completion of your high speed run you’ll again slow to then join the queue for the sprint circuit again.

Obviously as the speed is higher the danger is higher too, so there will be braking boards out at the end of the runway, just in case any heroes decide they can get that extra 5mph out of their car ;)

To those that don’t wish to take part in the high speed run, or alternatively the sprint course, the “loop” will be set out in such a way that you can miss out either section, should you wish.

As always, we’ll be providing lunch at a small extra fee, should you wish – this time from a burger/sandwich van just around the corner (We’ve sampled the food and can confirm it’s delicious!).

We have posted an aerial view of Throckmorton on our forum (http://sprintandtrackday.co.uk/page/throckmorton) to give you a better idea of how it will all work. This link also includes all the information needed to find the venue.

As with Curborough, there is no noise limit and we’ll be running from 9am – 5:30pm.

Full payment via Paypal to [email protected] needs to be taken upon booking as we need to pay for the track in advance of the event.

There you go guys, we hope you have a great time as usual, get in touch if you’d like to come along!

We've also had a Z4 second in class at Abingdon Car-nival and at Debden sprints in the last couple of months.

Didn't get any relevant video at Abingdon but the results are here: http://www.abingdoncarnival.com/AbingdonCARnival/CAR-nival_files/2014_AMC_Sprint_Results_-__Final.pdf and our video is here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OxI1e-QpGco -- trophies at the end presented by F1 legend John Watson.

the last event was 22nd of august, i didn't attend due to the forecast of heavy rain.... good move it seems, the turbo lotus above came and did some heavy damage... he did however manage a best time of 1.30 when the dry spells allowed him.

One of the more interesting cars i wanted to see run was a new golf R revo stage 3 with launch control that managed a blistering 0-60 of 3.9 seconds!!! absolutely incredible what the hot hatch can do today and is WELL into super car territory with that time!!

heres the update sent to me....

Hi guys,

The results from August are below. Another successful event even though the weather tried its best to spoil it.

There's been a slight change in class structure. The track classes have been split into both road legal, and none road legal classes. I've also added a 'specials' class, for everything that doesn't fit into any other category.

Two dates next month, the first is at Curborough which takes place on the 18th of September, (2 places left) and the other takes place at our new venue which is Throckmorton. This is an airfield venue based in Pershore.
