Window switch's - Are they generic?

I am research a solution; My drivers side window button is becoming intermitent when closing, taking many presses to close the window. Going down its fine, and using the GapTech via the Key it works fine, so my thinking is its the actual switch that is the problem.

Seaching Z4-Forum i can see its pretty easy to change the switch, and looking on eBay there are many second hand buttons / full switch units avaliable.....

My question is; Do i have to buy the exact right hand drivers side specific button/switch?

Or can i get a Passanger side unit like this bellow, remove the actual button and swap into my drivers side consol?

If it were me, I would remove the fascia, then split the window switch in two which reveals the circuit board.

Clean the circuit board with contact cleaner or isopropanal 99%. Also clean the rubber with the carbon contacts as well. Even if it looks clean inside.

Reassemble the window switch unit and see if that cures the problem.

Thanks @Usel ,
I tried this tonight on a whim. Removed the fascia (thinking for a later date) but then cracked into it. Cleaned the contacts with Nail polish remover, reassembled everything, and it was back in the car within the hour.
Tested it and it now works perfectly :)

Great!

The window switch is in a prime spot for water coming through the window when down or with the door open. Also it's there as a drip tray for any spillages from the cupholder
