Why you get pulled

Interesting. The “tell the DVLA if you’ve wrapped your car a different colour” is something I’d never have thought of.

Last I knew you didn't have to unless it was a permanent colour change, but you can see why the police will pull you for it.

I watched a few minutes of the video the other week then gave up.

My last pull was because the DVLA record has the car as red when the copper though it was black....it's Ruby Black, so it's both :P

I can't find a good gov.uk source that explicitly mentions wrapping, but a quick Google pulls a few sources (wrapping companies in the main) that state a complete wrap counts as a colour change and therefore the DVLA must be notified because you have to tell the DVLA if you change the vehicle's colour. So it depends how much of the car you wrap.

I once got pulled over as my white ford fiesta was registered as blue on their database  so they definitely pay attention to car colours. He checked the vin and my license and then said to get onto the dvla about it. I never bothered

My Ruby Black one also said it was Red on the V5. I never got stopped for it but the previous owner apparently did twice!

Allegedly for having incorrectly spaced plates that have been on for 3 mots and 40k miles 🙈 I genuinely bought them because they were advertised as road legal plates and produced an email showing they were sold to me as that.

Told them that if that all I was being stopped for I was happy since I’d been in a wee bit of a rush when I passed them going in the opposite direction before they followed me for 7 miles :?

That’s an interesting one

If the plates were incorrectly spaced then that would be an MOT failure

If it’s passed three MOT’s then that proves it’s not illegal especially if done at different garages

My Mrs car from factory is white, she has had her car wrapped for longer than a year now and no issues what so ever with the old bill.

She's also runs incorrectly spaced 4d plates for an eternity and touch wood no issues even after i got a panic phone call one day saying why did an unmarked traffic car put his lights on then when i slowed down he turned them off and overtook me... guess its down to whichever constabulary you deal with, i.e. Police here seem to be fair and worry about more important things than small issues with number plates and vehicle wraps.

Another situation to think about is i think the police have targeted topics that they work with i.e. this week or day we will be concentrating on such and such topic of i.e. Modified cars and having pop up stop checks to run routine checks such as insurance and mods on the vehicle.

Other than that i don't think they go out of their way to pull you for such small issues like mentioned above because there bored, however i may be wrong and corrected if someone here works for a traffic unit for the constabulary. :D

When I said that to them their response “depends how friendly you are with the tester, I’m telling you they’re illegal”

I am friends with the tester, he did say when I went up to get the new plates and producer stamped they were technically illegally spaced but no fancy/illegal fonts, distortion by screw caps etc in the wrong place so as far as he was concerned they were fine.

Anyway, £20 later the new plates are now on and producer stamped and sent away

When they’d confirmed a few times that’s all I was getting stopped for that’s exactly what I asked them, if they were having a slow night

Didn’t go down too well

I usually get pulled because I'm driving like I stole the car. Last time the officer even said that. Still no ticket though. :D :driving:

I have a very very small inkling that’s what pricked their interest to then get close enough to read my number plates
