What's the book value of a 150k mile Z4MC...

Quick update - things are moving along.

  1. I've got a courtesy car :dance2:
It's only a 1.0l Vauxhall Viva, but it's brand new and 'should' do 50mpg+ at 70mph. Don't expect it to be an overtaking monster though :P

  2. Damage is currently looking to be less than first estimated, and the Bilstein suspension doesn't look to have taken any damage, but the o/s drive shaft might need replacing as it's making a rubbing/grinding noise.

Bodywork should all be done by the end of the month, and then it's off to the chassis workshop to see what's what.
Then I can arrange for my Intravee, DAB, and dual-cam dashcam installs.

Something positive then!

Any idea on what dashcam setup you're going for? This is something im increasingly considering. Do they record when car is off/parked for any length of time? I assume it's just a case of how much memory you have that dictates the length of recording.

The one I'm looking at doesn't do the 'parked' option, and most that do will only record the front of the vehicle, so unlikely to catch anyone dooring/keying/vandalising the sides/rear of the car.

I'm going for the KS1 dual-cam set-up, which has 2 tiny cameras and a remote recording box that can be hidden away.

64gb card does about 5-6 hours of video - but that's for 1080p front & rear.

Small update - and it's got little to do with the Z4 unfortunately.

Got an email from the insurer to say they're still investigating my complaint, but it's taking longer than expected due to the complexities of the matter.

Finally got fed up with the courtesy car - and the back ache it's giving me half way into my commute, so went out at the weekend and bought a runaround.

Tadaaaahhhhh.

Ignore the price in the window, as that's for buyers with trade ins. My price was £1300 with a 6 month, fully comp warranty, and 12 months MOT. Everything electric works, and there's no visible corrosion other than on the brake disks (from sitting in the damp). No sign of wear on the interior, no rips or tears.

As long as it doesn't melt in the rain, throw up any electrical issues, or leave me at the side of the motorway, it should do me fine as a daily driver. Supposedly 60mpg on a run and it's got a very nice, cosy cabin, with a boot about the same size as a Z4 - so perfect for my luggage/computer.

The man maths are that I'll save more in fuel over 6 months in this than I have spent on buying it

Tony, you can't go wrong with that. Provided you're in the AA/RAC or similar, you've got all bases covered.
Think I've got it covered.

Have got 'personal' cover on my Z4 insurance policy (Britannia through LV), and 6 months RAC warranty with breakdown cover from the Alfa seller.

Just call them both, and see who comes first :P

I love Alfas (see the name) and although I have never had a diesel one (v6 busso all the way)it was was Alfas biggest mistake not protecting the common rail Diesel engine by patent. They where the first and are great engines.

Actually it was Fiat, and the first car was Croma in '88 I think.
Still a lot of Fiat engines eventually converted into Alfa ones, after Fiat luckily snatched Alfa in front of Fords grabby hands in 1987.
Fiat eventually sold the patent to Bosch. Suppose it's possible they needed more money in the 90's.

I love the busso V6 tho and I hope to buy a nice late red 75 3.0 from a friend later this summer. :)

Would have loved to get a GTA, but the petrol costs (i.e. similar to the Z4) meant it wasn't feasible.

Always thought is was Alfa! The V6 is a great engine. Sounds amazing.

Just checked it was the Fiat group when they owned Alfa and an Alfa 156 was the first passenger car to have it in 97. Fiat sold the technology to Bosch prior to this who made more out of it than Fiat.

Any news on when you will get you car back?
Not heard a peep from the bodyshop.

Can't really recommend either the bodyshop (Vizion Network @ Lookers, Speke), the broker (Keith Michaels - no interest in helping with my complaint) or the insurer (Markerstudy).

Will be getting the car checked out independently once I get it back as I've got no faith in the repair. It didn't help, when they said that they couldn't do the suspension themselves, and that it would have to taken elsewhere once the bodywork was done. I don't even know if the bodywork is done yet.

Think I could have had it done by one of Jonny Essex's mates in less time :poke:

Still not had any resolution to my complaint either - and part of that was the request for weekly updates, and a schedule for the repairs.

So almost 3 months after the incident & they haven't even started the fix :?

When I finally picked up the courtesy car about a month ago, the bodyshop told me that the bodywork was almost finished and that they were surprised how easy everything came off & went back on, so I stupidly assumed I'd hear something shortly.

I know it has to go somewhere else for any chassis/suspension work, but I've no inkling on when that will happen or how long it will take.

Although I have put almost 3,000 miles on their brand new courtesy car :P

In other words, they'd never had the panels off one of these before?
