What's the book value of a 150k mile Z4MC...

Tony,

With regard to the notchiness of the 1st/2nd gear change: could it be that the alignment of the engine with the drivetrain has been slightly changed by the impact of the car? I'm thinking of the possibility that there has been some distortion of the mounts or the mounting points during impact or repair.

Could well be.

I was always smug that mine was one of the few Z4Ms that didn't seem to have the stiff 1st/2nd gears - and I've had it since 9000 miles, so it's not like it's got better over they years.

Will see what the garage suggest when I speak to them during the week.

And whilst it's not my daily, I'll be taking the opportunity to get the leather reconnollised and the paintwork/dents/chips sorted (not at the bodyshop who've done the repair), intravee & dashcam wired in.

The trim around the rear quarterlight is part of the glass, not a seperate item..

So either quarterpanel or window not fitted correctly.. Is it the same side where the sill cover gap is wrong too ?

Could the "thrum" noise be the diff ? It had an impact so could have compacted the driveshaft flange bearing..

The only glass I can see on the estimate is for the door glass, so I'm guessing they taped the trim up out of the way for a few months whilst working on the side of the car. Unfortunately it's not settled down in the month since they said they'd finished the bodywork :x

Possibly, but I don't think they'll be happy to see how much BMW will be wanting for a diff :P

See how it goes...

Did it have a new rear quarter panel on that side ?
If you mean OSR 'wing', then yes.

OSF wing, OSR wing, OS door, OS skirt/sill.

Happy or not it's too late now - they've committed to putting it back on the road and there's an obligation to get it right - be interesting to hear what an independent engineer makes of it. Glad you've got it back on the road. All the best with the de-snagging.

Didn't realise... You didn't list the rear wing on your parts post...

Dare say if you have bad window and sill gaps then it's a badly fitted rear wing

Typo! Double-entry of the front wing - now fixed

It will get sorted ..

There's always a snag list when it's been in a Bodyshop..

In my experience I would get them to do it ASAP...

Great news Tony. Who are you getting to look it over?
Initially I can't get anyone to look over it, as my specialist's move from Essex to Cornwall isn't complete, but I've been promised a pack containing details of everything that's been done, including alignment & suspension settings.

I did spy it in the jet wash when I was sorting out an oil change for the Alfa (at a garage over the road), but did give the valeter a shock when I asked him to please warm the car up before revving the nuts off it :(

Also spotted a wheel & tyre in the boot - so I assume that's been replaced with a new one - I did mention I was planning on getting a new set anyway, so maybe it was too damaged to be able to do the suspension.

Will hopefully find out tomorrow, as I've been told I can 'have a look' tomorrow, but can't speak to anyone from the bodyshop. Will just have to check panel gaps, and that the door/boot opens smoothly - and that there's no water in the electrics as I saw the valeter with a jet lance whilst all the doors/boot were open.

But, as I've got a runaround, I'm in no rush to pay my excess and drive it away.

Glad it's finally going to be back in your hands soon mate, and look forward to catching it and you at a meet soon  :driving:

It seems like forever - but glad you have it back, hope all the niggles get sorted out for you and you can plan another Nurburgring trip

It's been picked up again, and is on its way back to the bodyshop to investigate my issues :telloff:

Tony - personally i would give them your complete listing and let them work through the lot. We have insurance for these purposes - so let them work for it :)

Yep, they will get it sorted

I had my M coupe back in for 3 months after the QC at a bmw main dealer body shop had signed it off..

They just do the bare minimum work and spend the least time as possible

I'm in no rush to get it back, and am under no pressure by having their courtesy car either as I've got the 147 as a 50+ mpg runaround now (with all new tyres, discs, pads & LED internal lighting - new stereo was booked for fitting today, but the installer called in sick).

My only hard deadline is my Ring trip in May - but I'd like it back before that so I can get the old wheels off the nearside, fit the new wheels & tyres, and then sell the old ones to someone on here!

What wheels have you bought for it?
Just a new set of 224M wheels, as mine were getting tatty and was fed up with the refurbs bubbling after a year (not from some £20/corner refurb either).

Decided to go for the £620 'B-grade' set from Germany - but made an offer of £540 (€100 less) and so ended up getting them for about the same price as another top of the line refurb. I don't know why they're listed a 'B-grade' as they look perfect to me.

I've had 19's and didn't rate the ride - okay for a garage queen, but not for a daily driver - and like the original wheels anyway.

The 2 new wheels from the insurance claim has 'messed' my plans up a little, as the plan was to take 4 tatty ones off, sell them and put the money towards the new set. Now it's going to be 2 new wheels & 2 tatty wheels being sold (there's already a thread & waiting list in the for sale section).

Just waiting to get the car back, so I can take the 2 old wheels off.

Interesting to know that you think the wheels are top notch, might consider doing this myself. Was the transaction/delivery straight forward?

Communications are in German, but the built-in translation in gmail worked well (along with my basic German skills). It was really just an email to say they'd accepted my offer, and then the delivery information, and finally a request for feedback.

The ebay description translated to 'dust in lacquer' but they looked as good as the brand new, genuine ones that have just been put on by the bodyshop.

Delivery was about £40, and took 3 days. All well boxed/packed individually with multiple layers of cardboard in a heavy cardboard box branded with their name. They seem to be a decent sized company - reifenprofi.de

I'll get some pictures up when I'm back home, as I just put them out of the way so I could get the Alfa into the garage to do it's brake disc/pad change at the weekend.
