What's the book value of a 150k mile Z4MC...

I asked where the 'repair cost' was coming from, and was told it was a standard system they used - with prices specific to each vehicle. I'm guessing it's a £4-£5k bill if it's just panels & paint - and I've not mentioned the wheels as I was planning on getting a set of brand new 224Ms from Germany in the New Year anyway.

I'm thinking that it's not been classed as an immediate write off due to the added £4k value of the aftermarket bits (£2.5k suspension, £600 Gruppe-M, £1000 exhaust).

Even if they consider mine only worth a derisory £7k standard, then the insured mods will take it to £10-£11k - so it'd have to be £5-£6k of repairs to make it a write off - unless the chassis is fooked.

Not bothered about it going to a BMW bodyshop as a 3rd party may have a much better labour rate which keeps it below the write off level. As long as they use genuine/OE parts, then I'm happy for whoever to do it, as I don't have much trust in dealers anyway.

Just waiting for a call back from their engineer/garage.

Wondering what they'll offer you...cheapest sold must be £11k, so can't be any less than that...right?! Buy the car back for £5k, stick another £3k in for repairs and you'll be back in business!

No idea if it has been mentioned yet, but isn't the back wheel at a funny angle and all sorts could be the result of that?

Shame to see it happen though :( Important thing is you walked away fine, I learnt how tough the Z4s are when mine got written off

It's just one of them situations Tony...

Regarding the wheels, the insurance would need to 100% sure that they are not cracked etc etc due to the accident.. Hyperthetically if they didn't replace them, and one disintegrated under load, then the ongoing claim could be into the millions..

That said, there does seem to be a trend in getting stuff repaired by the insurance that sometimes defies logic... Seems no rhyme or reason... I have seen 6 yr old cars written off for a popped tyre and a broken suspension spring..

I wholeheartedly agree that a BMW Bodyshop isn't the best place for it to go, again it depends but they probably have someone they are tied to for repairs..

I would probably estimate £4000 in replacement panels, £1500 in labour.. But not including the suspected rear suspension damage & wheel replacement

It was mentioned in passing, but it's got about 15º negative camber - perfect for Cadwell Park :P

The damage to the chassis/suspension is one of the things they won't be able to evaluate until it's at the engineer/garage for further assessment.

Minor scrape..

But no way will they repair with prices being what they are...

Shame

Exactly. There have been two ///M's written off recently, both with half the mileage and less damage. If it was me I would be buying this back and repairing myself when the inevitable happens.

It was the suspension damage and re-alignment bits that wrote my Z4 off value wise when I snapped the front off-side wheel off : < but that would have included steering stuff, maybe not so bad at the back

I was driving back along the M56 yesterday evening in the same god awful rain, it was pretty hairy at a couple of places. I thought I was getting a windscreen full of spray from a truck, until I got past the truck and there was no change, the rain was just coming down like a fire hose.

Such a shame to see a well known forum car in a state like this. I'm sure we were all willing it on to 200k miles and beyond.

If you do end up repairing it and want to hold off buying new wheels, I have some you can borrow for a while, you'll probably want to put your tyres on them though.
Might be a good time to fit aero side skirts too.

I wouldn't read too much into the angle of the rear wheel, that might need nothing more than a new wishbone and alignment. As Z4M-2006 and MM have said, it's the additive costs of many small parts with labour on top that will push it over the threshold...

If it's just a bush then fine. If it needs a trailing arm then it's about a grand

Ouch, i really feel for you on this. There seems to be no end of idiots on the roads these days. Only yesterday i had to take evasive action to avoid some idiot who decided not to check before pulling from 3rd to 2nd lane despite the horn going with plenty of notice!

In the dry I've have been fine, and would have just cut him right back up with a few expletives and 'nescafe' gestures - but I think the time between him pulling out & slamming on, to me hitting the barrier was only about 5 seconds.

Tony - just seen this

You must be gutted - so much invested in your Zed - not just parts but lots of history too - Damn! :headbang:

I hope you can get it back on the road and back to your usual full use as soon as possible.

Well, that's rather shite  Glad you're ok.

Value wise, I'd guess £8k-9k. But guess the car is worth far more to you?

Hope you get it sorted ok...

bummer, only just opened up this thread, not read it properly but really sorry to hear this Tony

So sorry to just be reading this, but it puts into perspective the relatively little damage done to my Coupe a couple of weeks ago.

Sorry to see this one like that, especially knowing the history from day 1 of it and the time / money that has been spent on it.

Good luck!

Well Tony I really hope after seeing the damage you get her repaired if this is possible and will keep my fingers crossed for you. :)

Really enjoyed meeting you and driving back from Skye in our wee convoy and hope to repeat some time, hopefully with the same coupe!

I didn't chip in for the JE Turbo conversion for obvious reasons, but if you need a forum financial hand, I'd be happy to start the ball rolling
