What's the book value of a 150k mile Z4MC...

Tony, just read this and I'd like to offer my commiserations. I hope it all works out for the best for you.

If the insurers write it off and you could buy it back and store it, watch out for secondhand parts on ebay and over time, turn it into a dedicated track car. I'll donate a front bumper if you need one.

I've got a set of standard side skirts you can have, they are black sapphire though

If you are ever passing Huddersfield / Leeds you are more than welcome.

Sorry to see this tony- I'm sure you will fix it one way or the other! DPG- forum at it's best yet again!

Thanks for all the words/offers of support, and I yet may take some of you up on them.

Just stuck in limbo right now until it's been fully assessed.

You can guarantee the car will be written off as Cat C (value of the damage excesses value of the car), Cat D (Vehicle value exceeds value of damage) if your lucky. The book value of the car with 150k on the clock will be very low (from an insurers perspective), so if you brought it back you will get it for pennies.

If you plan to put back on road then give me a shout if you need any quotes or advice.

If I assume (in the best case scenario) that the bumpers & skirt can be rubbed down (filled if required) and painted, and there's no further chassis damage, then I'm thinking the computer has assessed it as such (using BMW prices for parts):
  • Front wing - £400
  • Rear wing - £500
  • Door - £1000
  • Sundries (clips, bolts, cleaning products, etc.) - £250
  • Paint - £500
  • Labour - £500 (20 hours at £25/hour insurance rate)
So a total of £3500 give or take (ignore VAT).

If there's suspension/chassis damage, or cracks in the bodywork/wheels/etc. then you're looking at possibly double that.

If the retail value of my car with the mods (which were declared) is only £10k (cheapest, low-optioned, standard Z4MC I could find on any site was a 108k mile one for £11.5k) then the extra damage would make it into Cat C/D.

Absolutely gutting mate.... Body damage alone (according to the insurance) will be in excess of £3k, if they value the car under 10k and they manage to add up an extra £2k for little odds and sods (new wheels etc) it will be a wrote off :(

But the plus point will be you'll be able to buy it back for next to nothing.

You can discuss with your insurance about not fitting bumpers/skirt to try and keep the cost down if you want to try and keep the car...

I dare say you could negotiate second hand parts if you was determined not to have it written off..

It depends what you want...

I dare say, even with suspension damage that the car could be repaired fairly cheaply if you sourced parts...
Could be an idea if your offered salvage

Sorry to hear about this, mmm-five, but glad you are ok. Whatever you decide to do, I hope you get a reasonable deal from the insurers.

oh mmm-five, really really sorry for your pain, but as people have said before at least YOU are okay.

Just been reviewing my insurance policy docs & certificates, and noticed that there's a value of £11k listed - so I'm hoping that's what they're basing their repair/write-off calculations on.

I've also noticed that my NCB has gone from 9 years protected, to 9 years unprotected mid-policy (in June when I put the private plate on). So I assume this is an admin error and why the underwriter is claiming I'll have 0 NCB after this claim.

Hopefully it will be sorted out next week as I've heard nothing from the insurer/assessor since I reported it - so much for the Hyundai i10 for my Liverpool to London commute. I've now hired (out of my own pocket of course) a 'Ford Focus or similar' (so probably a i30 or Citroen D3 or Renault Captooor).

Car is stripped of all personal belongings - including any embarrassing CDs, spare locking wheel nut keys, spare towing eyes, etc. - and I will be photographing it inside & out to ensure everything is still there after the repair/write off is agreed.

mmm-five, I'll admit I'm a little paranoid, but I would leave a note in the car and a second in the boot stating that photographs have been taken of the interior, exterior and underbonnet area including all OEM and and aftermarket parts, and that these photographs have been submitted to the insurance company.

Great/paranoid minds think alike :P

Just took the photos, and am doing an A4 leaflet to go in the boot, engine bay & on the seats.

Too much?

This is the problem when you change the policy mid year, especially if they don't issue new documents like Admiral.

When I received my renwal this year the only mod listed was the GruuppeM. All the exisitng mods were wiped when I added this. :headbang:

Not sure what would have happened in the event of a claim.

Really cannot see why they can't issue new documents. They are virtual as they are in electronic for so really should not be an issue.

Perfect I would say but just check that all you list has been declared before putting it down in black and white. If not a more general statement might be better. Like he bottom sentence as it makes it appear to be from the insurers.
