What have you done to your car today?

Busy weekend with a gearbox oil change and sachs rear shocks fitted. Wrapped up with a new set of Goodyear Eagle F1 Assy 6 tyres. Huge improvement!

Window regulator failed on driver side. Took me 4hrs in the end. Was a PITA to get the membrane off without damaging too much. Then another PITA getting the glass to line up again on all sides and slotting into the lifter slide thingy :headbang: Handy to have two people for that part. But all sorted now :driving: 20240630_125732.jpg

Nothing Sun is shining no need for an excuse to travel 60 miles for an ice cream

Well of course being in Yorkshire you wouldn't entertain it, but across the border in Lancashire you could get Raspberry Ribble. :D

Not so much something that I've 'done, but 'discovered' and I have nowhere else to ask.

In my Z4MR, it feels like my my car kind of 'crawls' in 4th gear when my foots not on the gas, very low revs and I'm feathering the brake in a 10mph zone or something. It definitely feels like there's an extra bit of forward momentum. Definitely not the case in other gears! Never noticed it in other cars before. Is that normal? A little "M" quirk?

I'm not certain what the ratios are in the gearbox, but in a lot of cars 4th is 1:1. Therefore is it possible that the drive is passing straight through the box, without having to engage any extra cogs which possibly makes it feel as though the whole thing is able to maintain engine revs more easily? Less transmission losses.
I await howls of derision as this really is just a wild guess based on general knowledghe.

Gear ratios from a google search for the Z4M

4.35:1, 2.50:1, 1.66:1, 1.23:1, 1.00:1, 0.85:1, :1

So 5th gear is 1:1 and 6th overdriven

At a guess it's probably anti-stall kicking in! 10mph in 4th must be below the idle speed in an M.

I'd be no higher than 2nd gear at 10mph.

MOT today, really worried about it. Even though i am sure there should be nothing wrong .................... i think.

Thanks guys, good to know! Now that I think about it, it actually isn't when I have my foot on the gas. I got it wrong. So to be more specific I've only really noticed it going down a gentle downhill, so my foot's not on the gas and im just touching the brake incase some kid jumps out between a parked car, and there's definitely some extra pull in 4th, not the same feeling in 2nd or 3rd.

Breezed through, according to the MOT test centre.

Well, tomorrow really, back up to Newport again, this time in the Z4  to fetch wife. She went up yesterday to take our daughter home and stay a while but her car went wrong. AA brought it home but not her. let’s hope it’s not raining for some roof down driving
