What have you done to your car today?

New shoes for the lady. Brakes n pads all around plus some fancy rubber soles.

I did get some bad news though. Guy doing the fitting says the handbrake mech is worn and needs replacing. Its an MOT faliure and the part is difficult to come by. Many places dont have it in stock and last time he ordered it took a year. DANG. Any advice guys?

Southampton to Rotterdam and Cherbourg and back. Three nights on the MSC Virtuosa, had amazing weather and a fabulous time.

This company & Ship gets slated in reviews, but we had a brilliant time and got a cracking deal.

I’ll open the light in a bit Dave, but I’m sure it’s all good. Seems very well packaged, thanks.

Sounds great Martin, I must have a look, never done a cruise and maybe a short one like this would be a good taster?
No problem re the light, hope it's OK for you

That's a pain, but seems to happen to our Z4s. It might be worth posting a "Wanted" advert in the classified section as a few members have broken cars so someone might have one.

Not today but at the weekend fitted some style 313s.

Fairly content with this look now 8)

Replaced my third brakelight in the boot lid, had been replaced before with an ebay sourced unit which now had a few failed led's in it.
Sourced another ebay replacement here

Arrived within 3 days and seemed better quality than the last one I used, the gasket with it fitted better and it pulled itself in to position very well with the three mounting studs using a long box spanner through the access holes to achieve a good seal. Only problem was that the power lead fitting on the unit was slightly wider and would not easily plug into the cars loom socket. Solved that by trimming the side down with a stanley knife so it would fit into the loom socket.

Changed the Rear disks and pads on the Mrs E85 this morning. ATE disks and Textar pads courtesy of Auto.doc, although delivery was slower than usual this time.

The disks were shot and clearly only pads changed last time as load of life left in them, but grooves top and bottom from the lips on the disks

The more of this sort of thing I do, the more a Quick-Jack appeals

Out for a little drive in it later to bed them in

Nothing to mine but an ultra marathon on

3.0i 53 plate

Great motor to work on and interesting as it’s got a hydraulic steering rack setup installed

I know John has a lot planned for it- new panels, heated seats and proper cat exhausts

Today we smashed out:

New brakes front and rear
New suspension including bushes and drop links
Vanos
Water pump thermostat and full service
Sparks and filters
CDV delete
New gearbox and diff oil

Only made one slight fluff up with the valve cover gasket but it wouldn’t be a full day without one foul up!

Quick wash before a 2-day roadtrip in good company: another E86, an E85, F430, 911 4S, B5 Alpina, E55 AMG and a DB11. Should be good fun on the German autobahn and the backroads alike :driving:

I bet that was a thoroughly rewarding days work, I imagine that felt like a completely different car after that lot

Painted the roof with renovo black.

Was a lot thinner than I was expecting. There's enough in a tub to paint the roof 3-4 times over. I did mine twice and poured the rest back into the bottle should it need a touch up in future.

I did a deep clean of the roof yesterday. Used surfex HD diluted 1:10. Then used auto finesse softop cleaner. A vikan convertible brush and and old toothbrush for the sides and corners where you have to put the roof down 10% to get into.

Going to use fabsil to waterproof it once it's dry. Hopefully this evening. Renovo say to wait 24 hours but it's sunny outside and the stuff dries pretty quickly from the flicked splashes off the brush onto the paintwork and windows. Spent more time cleaning them off than painting the roof.

Need to remember now to reproof the car every year. I used fabsil gold last time but managed to get normal fabsil off gumtree new and sealed for a bargain price so using that this time. Hopefully lasts a year.

Would be good to see some photos of the roof

Ill take some in a bit giving it a couple of hours to dry as much as it can.

One thing I can say is I didn't like how runny the renovo was. Maybe it's runny for a reason. Probably similar to fabsil gold I used in the past. Possibly even runnier than that. The roof does look very good for 2 decades old and never been garaged under last 2 owners unsure of before
