Washed, hoovered, tyre pressures done.

1) Finally got my carly adaptor and coded out the annoying beep it makes locking and unlocking
2) Coded a few other things and cleared the stored engine codes - made sure none came back
3) Attempted to drive to the shops only to find an inch of stanley knife blade in my rear o/s
4) Local mech plugged the tyre and it seems to be holding up fine; car is off the road for at least a week so I'll see if it holds up
5) Took each wheel off, flushed the arches and gave each wheel a good clean. Winter tyres and wheels go on next week so I'll be bagging up my 107s until the spring.
On a side note, I had to use my z for the 40-mile each way commute this week in very icy conditions; lowest temp I saw was Wednesday at -7c when I left home. Car never put a foot wrong; even on icy and slushy roads it was planted, although I was obviously taking care. But it never once slid or under steered. Not bad for a semi-automatic with fat summer tyres on the rear!

Replaced the driver’s side wing mirror glass which fell out this week. Quite a common thing so I’ve read.
Bit of a bugger to get it off even after turning the release notch and ended up ripping the old one to pieces but new one is in!
Can’t say I was happy to spend so much money on a piece of glass though!!

Winter wheels/tyres fitted then off to Dorset from Shropshire to see my aged Mother who at 98 has just gone into a wonderful home to be cared for and pampered a bit. Got back today and looked at my consumption...... motorway at a steady 70 (ish!) set on the cruise. For a 3.0 litre petrol engine, that is amazing!

My E89 achieved 40.3 MPG on trip from London to Malaga Spain doing around 70 to 80 MPH which included being stuck in almost standstill traffic in Paris for 2 hours! I believe the figure would have been higher probably around 43 to 45 MPG had it not been for the traffic in Paris. Truly remarkable economy for 6 cylinder 3 litre. To put it into a perspective my F20 118d doesn't achieve much more then 50 MPG on a long run doing similar speeds and that's a 4 cylinder diesel!
Cleaned out the windscreen drain holes - reckon its never been done as all the plastic clips were still intact.
Also replaced both drive belts and checked pulleys. Tensioner pulley feels rough so that will be replaced - easy enough job.
Whilst underneath with torch noticed a coolant drip - coming from radiator hose - the one with temp sensor. Wil borrow pressure tester and see where its coming from.
Also fitted my repaired GM5 module. Still no central locking. Tried every combination to pair the key to the car but no joy. May send key away to get looked at. Gotta love old cars - easpecially in winter

New diff oil today. Has totally eradicated the loud wrrrr noise I’ve had coming from the diff since Ive owner the car late last year

(The car is a 3.0si manual and doesn’t have a drain plug, only fill plug on the diff hence the oil extractor

True that. But honestly this little car is still good on gas compared to my guzzler.
