What have you done to your car today?

I spent the morning drying up my battery compartment and removing the worst sludge ever, looked like swamp muck lol.

Hopefully sorted the vent issue that was causing the leak.

My Alcantara project is well under way. Re fitted the headlight switch trim today and fitted a DAB antenna.
the long passenger side dash piece is almost ready to go back in but will have to wait until next weekend now

Fab effort! Is it hard to do?

The face of the long piece is glued on to the brushed Ali, the edges that are tucked over the back are trimmed and ready to stick. Once the long ones on I’ll then set about doing:

- transmission tunnel trim (the brushed Ali in my case)
- hand brake and gaiter including the arm rest
-ZHP knob and gaiter
- knee pads
-door pull trims (the silver bits)
-steering wheel

May take me some time to get all that done though. I’m anticipating the gear stick, handbrake and steering wheel being a send away job.

Thanks  Not particularly hard, more fiddly. The Alcantara is off the roll so the trim and Alcantara need to be sprayed with contact adhesive, but then you don’t get long to manoeuvre the material around the trim and have to be careful not to get any on the Alcantara.

Once the face was stuck folded it over and used superglue to hold the edges. As the Alcantara didn’t want to play ball I used the mrs’ nail file and a heat gun to get a good hold.

I imagine the headlight switch is the hardest but to re fit as the headlight switch goes in first, leaving very little room to get the (now smaller) hole to go over the switch. The radio and vents go in last on the passenger side trim, so it shouldn’t be quite so tricky getting them in.

I’m convinced the whole process would be easier on a plastic trim though, I guess due to the flex in the pieces and initial bite of the glue

Went for a quick blast today with hood down in the sunshine. The last for 2019 😦 Arriving home I put the hardtop on for the winter.

Put on some new (to me) wheels to try on for the winter. Gives me a chance to finally prep my other ones for next year.

Had some lovely sunshine today, so took the opportunity to get out for a bit of proper hood down testing in the new (to me) E85

Have to say, loving the power deliver of the M54 in this car, particularly with the B12 kit 8)

I fitted a DISA valve repair kit a few days ago but was unhappy that I could not get the valve to swing freely, even with backing of the screw a great deal. I ran the car and it seemed not quite as it should be. So I bought a new unit from BMW and fitted it today. I went for a 15 mile drive with the roof down at 7.5 C. It goes great now :D

Hi.
Can I just ask which brand of kit did you use? I had a similar problem with an i6automotive kit when I fitted it years ago. When you say the car ran it was not quite as it should be can you elobarate on the this and difference the proper bmw part made. Thanks

It was the X8R kit. I know many people have had good results but even with the screw slackened back a turn or two the valve sometimes slightly stuck instead of turning freely. The performance was just not quite as good as it should be. Mainly in lower revs when putting your foot down. It was not a tremendous difference but just took the edge off the acceleration. The bmw new part sorted it out. I am sure the repair kits are fine as long as you can nip up the screw and still have a freely moving valve. I have read of others having the same issue when fitting the kit. I have also read of many people having no issue.

The brown in the bottom of the bath tub is rust from the cast bath as the enamel is wearing through makes it non slip

It is a house I rent, when I move out the landlord in tacking it back to brick every thing except the kitchen is pre war of before....

Fitted the passenger side e46 seat. The drivers side is at the upholsterers. The S2000 seats don’t have up and down movement. They’re a perfect height for me but too low for the wife and the e46 seats seem a lot more comfy.

Don't tell your wife about reducing tyre pressures on her side will make things more comfy! 😂

Swapped over to my winter 17’s with Michelin cross climates, gave the hubs a clean & repaint at the same time to keep them looking fresh :P
