Thanks Jack, I've seen the documentation of people doing it but there's never a mention of it being done in situ with a MGSW hence my question.
The problem I have mate is that I can't recode the car if I disconnect the battery.
Si I'm not sure I know what you mean by recode the car. If your thinking radio codes etc then it's fine as the car doesn't use them. If your thinking eml light or airbag light etc As long as you disconnect the battery first and put everything back together before reconnecting it should be fine.

I removed my steering wheel last week to repaint the trims. I left the battery disconnected for 3 days and only reconnected it again once the steering wheel and air bag had been refitted. Everything was ok and nothing needed reprogramming.
Just remember to wait 30 minutes after disconnecting the battery before trying to remove the airbag. I falso found a plastic chopstick was the perfect tool for removing the airbag
