The lights still aren't working properly, and I'm currently very pissed off with pvr's choice of location for the intravee in the centre chubby...I disconnected it to ensure it wasn't messing with any codes and now can't get the leads connected again. Feckin' thing, my knuckles are in agony :x

Anyhoo, they even cleaned and re-oiled my BMC filter so overall very happy. Final cost was £649 incl. VAT, roughly half and half parts and labour.

Sorry, didn't see this, so didn't ask. In adjusting them they've erred on the loose / conservative side though.

EDIT - they did give me the range of size of shim they applied though, and said the adjustment needed was fairly uniform across the cylinders.

My thoughts exactly. And I know they'll have done it right. The engine is sooooo much quieter at idle now. Year change seems smoother when warm too, though that could be placebo...

Not a bad price at all. Next service a cheap one and with reduced mileage that will take a long time.

PVR is net up for the 20k Post club. Don't think he will be selling his Porker to Bing or any one else any time soon though. So the internet is safe for now :wink:
 
Zed Five - I haven't been posting on here regularly for ages - too busy. Been working at home while the car is serviced, so more time than usual. Nothing's really caught my attention recently either - far too many droll posts & things I've heard too many times before... ;-)

Rob - typo at the edge of a rugby pitch, and my failing eyes :D

PVR - it's a s**t location, I am considering moving it. When my knuckles work again :P

Beedub - it's a lot, lot quieter. But that will be the shims, as the oil was only 5k miles old.

I think he was referring to the diff and diff oil. To be honest I noticed absolutely no difference in diff noise (or the lack of it) when I had mine changed recently. Still quiet as a mouse.
 
Definitely no different in diff noise... Never noticed any noise before TBH :D

Pretty much why mine were so bad i think, insp2 just not done properly.

It's worth trying to find out if they checked the followers, if any of the shims were out significantly then the followers will of worn, the question is how badly. i suspect the worse the shims get the damage to followers becomes exponential due to the increased travel of the shim when she rotates.

The noise a single bad follower makes is pretty recogniseable, but it may not be obvious. It's one of those where .. once you've heard it, you can't un-hear it :)

Otherwise glad its back safe! Mine's due MOT this month, shall be booking in this week!
 
mines gone :-( bloody nightmare trip, but good to spend some decent seat time with the old girl.
