Well this should be a fun experience...

It's been outside a number of nights in my ownership, but only 2/3 times in the wet.

And yeah, the whole of tomorrow is going to be an exercise in concentration too...

I stuck on 4 new Hankooks back in June. Nothing like fresh, new rubber 8)

Mine is still on its original battery, 8 years old now. C-teks are wonderful things

What is motor plan ?

True, I was being imprecise - terribly sorry !

I do live in fear of it suddenly deciding to die without warning, like an elite sportsman who's has the best of training and nutrition his whole life just dropping dead of a heart attack :P

Think you will start getting electrical gremlins more than complete failure.

Do you use a ctek?

Yep, got a ctek. It doesn't get used nearly as much now because I take the train into London 4/5 days a week. So it's on the ctek most weekdays unless I have to travel elsewhere to see customers.

They will be starting soon...

Mine was on its original too - after 9 years. Would still be on there if my recent failed alternator hadn't cooked it

Just had a quick update... Everything's going well, but -

Out of 24 valves 14 need adjustment, so every cylinder is getting attention. And they are checking the lifters too. Might be quite a few shims on the bill though

There are some engine fault codes related to throttle adaption that they're going to clear for now. Apparently nothing serious but likely to be contributing to occasional hesitation. If it comes back they'll have a look at that specifically another day.

Handbrake needs adjusting, but is part of the service.

Brakes are all good for now - which is a relief !

Should be done by 4 and running 'sweet as' when I collect it.

All in all not bad at all so far.

I'm very surprised at the number of shims it has needed! My 20yr old E36 M3 Evo didn't need that many, and there was no sign of them ever being done in over 110k miles.

You will have to post details of the measurements. Wonder what PVR did to make them go out of tolerance so quick.

I hope they remembered to record the measurements. 14 isn't the number of shims - it's the number of valves that need adjusting. Could well be many more shims...

I wonder if Vines actually did a decent job at it's first Insp1... Or indeed if they did the clearances at all. Must check the invoice. I've no idea what makes them go out of tolerance, but it's been treated well by me, and was by pvr too. I wonder if daily driving has this effect ? Or conversely, caused by it having been used sparingly prior to my ownership, and mostly on hoons ? Anyone know what causes the clearances to change ?

On the plus side, it will definitely run better.

For the record these are the tolerances off my e36 m3 which I mentioned earlier.

I believe cam lobes wearing (increases gap) or valve seats (decreases gap) are the main reasons for wear depending on oil types etc.

They only use one shim per valve
