Under bonnet noise on unlock

Hi all... when I unlock my car with the fob there is a mechanical noise that seems to come from under the bonnet. Is it something like the roof pump priming?

Roof pump is located at the rear to the left of the rear boot bulkhead.
More than likely what ur hearing is the air vent flaps opening perhaps.
Post up a vid if ur concerned...

When you unlock the car it wakes up so there could be quite a few things that get prepared.
Im sure I read somewhere that the fuel pump primes ready for starting.

I thought fuel pump too until i remembered that it primes only on ignition position 2.
Makes sense, if only from a security pov.

Im not that technical with electrics but is the E89 possibly different to the E85 in the fact it doesn't have a key to turn to position 2?
Or is inserting the thing that replaced the key the equivalent of position 2?

Ah missed that this was e89 related.
Not sure, could be. Would imagine the same would apply from a security perspective.

Always thought pre-oiling the engine should also be part of a priming regimen. Its common in aviation so why not cars?

I had an e90 3 series once and it made a noise from under the bonnet when unlocking if it had been locked for a bit.

Thought it was a fault until I had one as a loan car and it did the same.

Dont know what it was or if its the same on our cars but thought i’d mention it.

It’s the car putting on it’s internal seatbelt in preparation for a white knuckle ride :poke:

For those interested... They detected that the battery was low and slow charged it overnite...and it hasn't done it since... They did pick up a VVT servo fault though, apparently rare, so they sent to Germany for the part (£350) and fitted it under warranty. Seems to idle a lot rougher now..but have told them I will monitor it....Perhaps I'll get someone to sit in it at the Ace tommorrow....
