The time has come: AP Brakes

I'm having them fitted tomorrow now :driving:

good to hear.. just remember that braking is significantly improved :driving: so "joe bloggs" with drum discs, hubcaps and running in close proximity won't even have time to think in an emergency brake  :fuelfire:

     :driving:

Finally have them fitted at last. I need to get them bedded in today so can't really comment on the effectiveness. Simpsons were great as the install wasn't exactly without incident. They advised that my rear OEM discs actually had plenty of life so told me to keep them on for now. I will be replacing them with AP discs though when the time comes. You don't notice the different discs so much but you do notice the different bells, plus of course the AP bells are much lighter and I prefer the idea of just discarding the rotor rather than the rotor and bell as you do with OE discs.

I'll get some pics later

what issues did simpson come up against??? i felt this went pretty smoothly, took me from 7.am till 6-7pm to finish on my own doing this with the car on axle stands on my driveway.....

The gear was fitted by 1PM. For the next 4 1/2 hrs they did their best to get rid of the noise from the rear heatshields. Anyway, I can't fault them. Seriously. They were almost broken hearted that I drove away with the car still making some (minor) noise. I had to leave otherwise I got the feeling they would have happily had me there all night until it was sorted! After chatting to you and flatout it seems some slight noise is expected for the first few hundred miles. Since yesterday's drive home it's already improved I'd say at least 50% so hopefully it should sort itself out. They made it clear that if the noise persists after I've bedded them in and done a couple hundred miles they'd be happy to take the car back in and see what they can do.

I've just got back from bedding the car in and I took a little blast through a few local A/B roads and broke as late/heavily as I dared. First impressions:

1. Noticeably less dive under braking. Balance is much, much better.
2. Soooooo much more finesse in the pedal. It seemed as though the OEM brakes were either applied or not applied with little middle ground. There wasn't any modulation at all IMO.
3. This setup stops like a mofo! Seriously. Not like the OEM brakes aren't aggressive enough but these are just something else.
4. They groan a little as expected but no squealing yet. To be honest they didn't exactly take a thorough pounding so I'm sure they'll squeal when properly used though.
5. Pagid pad smells... nice. :D

I'll get some pics up in a mo.

playa a great bed in procedure.....

10 stops from 70-10mph without triggering the abs, dont come to a stop durng the runs, this will leave you a lovely transfer layer, this is the stoptech procedure and it works very very well, bed in needs to be done reguarly to keep your transfer layer, when your rotors look shiny like mirrors, its time to redoe the transfer process.... the transfer layer is what give your proper braking performance....

definatly agree with your comments, the noise your hearing will 100% die down, i dont think its the splash gaurds causing the noise your hearing..... simpson would have stayed their till 10pm if you'd have let them..... bloody fabulous people.....
dont be dishearted with the noise your hearing, i had the same thing and it went after a few hundred miles, honestly my theory??? i think the rear an squeal plate slightly rubs the leading edge of the rotor when these are brand new, i think they eventually rub away and are fine..... i dont think your splash gaurd is rubbing ;-)

google "stoptech bed in procedure" for the full description....

honestly.... the pedal feel is awesome, and im so glad you notice how much less the car dives with the 4pots in the rear now taking up alot more braking, the car brakes very "squarely" the more you use these brakes the better they will become!!

Pictures are pretty wack but I'm sure I'll have some better ones after Sunday service this weekend

They look nice in red. Should I paint mine something else so we don't look uber similar yet again? :P Ceramic-esque yellow would be cool but OTT.

You're making me excited now too..

The red calipers look great on your red car. I'm getting mine in Black, and maybe for the full stealth mode I'm getting the Yellow AP logo's painted black also (reason; a BBK will not pass the MOT in my country).

don't red painted calipers go pink after a while and all the heat?
Don't think so, at least not on the CSL I have seen that has been wearing red APs for the last 5 years of proper usage.

the red AP paint is an enamel finish........ their is now way they'll go pink as long as we keep on top of maintance, keep corrosive dust of them as much as possible... no hardship as they look fabulous

grr. kinda wish mine were red, looking at them it would be hard to do a good job around the AP logos..

the red looks awesome but i think the black does also and imo will stand out on a red car as much as a brighter colour...

I was not aware that the rear heat shield could cause problem when fitting the AP caliper. I was under the impression that only the front heat shields needed modification...
