Well that was closer than I thought it would be. Result's wise it wasn't exactly what I'd call a landslide though and ultimately the debate will rage on I'm sure. As for me; well I said I'd go with the judges decision so the diminutive one will be put back on my car this weekend.

...incidentally the AM/LW hasn't been working with the whip since I put it back on anyway for some reason.

Thanks to all for your votes and LONG LIVE THE STUBBY - for 2011 anyway.

I MUCH prefer the stubby..... happy with my purchase and FM reception still works great. Didn't try AM radio...... haven't used it in years.

yep that defo works with the zed....looks much cleaner and smoother. Received my stubby from mangowalk this week, so fitting this arvo

being firmly from the "non-stubby" camp I was in the market for a new aerial after some good soul decided to liberate my OEM aerial last week and ended up going for this: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/BMW-Mini-One-...arts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item3a66a916ff

its about a third shorter than the stock aerial and IMO suits the car far better than the out-sized original. once it stops raining and i can clean my car i'll post a pic so you can decide...

there is no degradation of reception either which some seem to have suffered with the stubbies

Does anyone here listed to Classic FM with a stubby? I realised I can't get it any more, which is kinda crap.

Shame BMW don't do upgraded radios for the Z4 fitment/shape... probably a good market in there for someone to make a decent DAB/iPhone capable radio outta the box that looks oem.

Its funny as my old honda civic has the aerial built into the rear window which is something I thought was pretty cool. For a car thats supposed to be premium like the Z4 and nicely styled it does seem odd that they stick an aerial on it in a place that could be so easily improved. It looks almost like an after thought.

e36's 3-series BMW's from the 90's have two antennas (called a diversity antenna) in the rear window. The computer constantly changes values between the two antennas (i.e. 30% - 70% split) to get optimal radio receiption. e46 3-series BMW's from the 2000's had 3 antennas in the rear windows.

However both cars in CONVERTIBLE form had a whip antenna. They also had smaller trunk emblems because the third brake light had to be relocated to the trunk from the rear window.

:)

I finally got round to cleaning the car so thought I would post a pic of the aerial; not a whip and not a stubby...a Whubby?
