Testing the Water - Value of Supercharged Z4?

Just testing the water for now. I appreciate it's hard to put a value on a modified car, but how much do you think I could ask for my current car? The other option is of course to split, I am sure someone would be interested in the clear xenon lights, M Sport seats, supercharger and sell the car as “standard”. I have a figure in mind but I want to see a balanced opinion. If it's too low then I'll happily keep the beast :) :)

Reason for sale is, well I ALWAYS need a project and I've pretty much done all I can with this car, or rather all I have a budget for, still a few smaller things I'd like, hardtop, aero side skirts etc. Quite fancy buying an early E46 M3 and supercharging it :) :)

To give you an idea of why I supercharged my Z4 rather than buying an Z4M is the drivability. The Z4M engine is fantastic but does need worked hard, I prefer to use low down grunt. The supercharger also has the benefits of lower insurance, servicing and parts costs, petrol etc etc. 27-28mpg on average and 34-36mpg on a steady run, both are real calculated mpg not the standard exaggerated computer readings. The ESS supercharger conversion ensures that the car is still perfectly drivable when cruising.

No trackdays, racing or ¼ miles done with this car. Done 4500 miles with supercharger. 16Months of warranty left on Supercharger.

To give you an idea of how well this car is maintained the roof regularly treated with Renovo cleaner and Ultra Proofer, every 6 months or so. The leather seats and door trims are looked after with Gliptone Liquid Leather Shampoo and Conditioner every 4-6 months. The paint is then treated with a Clay bar annually along with Zaino Z5 with ZFX formula every 4 months. The alloy wheels are removed after winter and fully cleaned out to prevent any corrosion. The oil and filter is changed between services, every 7000 miles with fully synthetic oil.

The real question is, "how much would it cost to ship the supercharger across the Atlantic?"

I think it it is worth about £500 if you are selling it to me :D
the value would of course then magically rise

what's the status of your supercharger setup? The mpg correct software hasn't been released for the TS2 kit, or has it? Is everything running "fine"?

Hi GV,

The MPG is now correct. However, I am trialing the new software with the corrected readings, because of this it's a little hesitant for the first 60 seconds when cold, but fine unless giving lots of throttle which is not advised from cold anyway. When warm it's absolutly stunning, no driving problems at all. Idle is perfect etc.

ESS emailed just yesterday to advise there is updated software available free of charge, asi it is for the first two years. I just need to arrange a time for the update to be applied. Then all issues will be resolved. Alternatively the original software which also ran perfectly is available but the mpg reading will be wrong.

NIIIIIIIICE CAR!!!

a little off topic, but how much (approx) is that front bumper?

can't imagine what this car would feel like with 8psi of boost!!!

Hi,

If it's any help my car is virtually identical spec. same age, mileage, colour, service, care and attention to maintenance, etc.

I have an '06 front yours aero. Obvious difference is the supercharger, and perhaps clear lights and differrent wheels.

OK price - well basic mine's £17,000 value. Previous owner thought it should be more because of care and attention, but nope.

All the stuff you've done adds nothing at all to it's value and aside a keen fan probably reduces the price. Harsh but many buyers are worried about such changes.
(I have a Jeep with £38,000 build costs and it's worth slightly less than a standard of the same year £7,000)

In certain circumstances paint colour, sat nav, auto boxes and FSH add value and make cars saleable.

Suppose you paid £5k for the supercharger. Would it make a £17k car a £22 car? Perhaps £18k or £19k, but you ought to get more for the supercharger separately.

If it were me I'd pull the extras off, return to stock and sell them on to a ready market and make overall more, however I suspect you'll not sell having built such a great looking and performing car.

If you do tell me and I'll be in line for the charger and keep it this side of the pond....lol

Just my thoughts - argue away.....

For those of you who remember Tony ( X88 Racing ) he had the same problem. His black 3.0 had practically every mod you could think of but when it was time to sell he couldn't get back anything he'd spent. Consequently the car has been put back to standard except the aero kit and some interior bling. The modded goodies have been sold off for a good price and the car will soon be up for sale in almost standard form.

This is very interesting to me as I just commented earlier today in the "Have you ever tracked your Z" thread :..."Also, and I have no real proof of this, it's just a hunch, but if you ever decided to sell your vehicle and the potential buyer finds out it's been tracked, that may hurt the deal. I know I would never buy a tracked or heavily modified car."
Perhaps I was right.

Not entirely sure what you're getting at.... my car has never been tracked. My nearest track is 120 miles away and the next around 300 miles. Plus the empty Scottish roads are as good as any race track :) :)

If the conversion is done right i.e. not a biy racer bodykit and attention to detail has been applied I see know reason why not to buy. Like my car they tend to be better maintained, Did you change your gearbox fluid at 25K? Probably not, in fact I bet it's never changed.. get my drift. I do however understand where you're coming from, especially if it was an unknown company but ESS are pretty much the best company out there.

Just my input :)

Hi Curtis,

Yeah I notice Tony split his car, although he was asking Z4M money, which I am certainly not.

If I split I think I could get:

£16.5K to £17K for car.
£3500 for Supercharger
£1000 for M Sport Seats
£800 for wheels
£500 Clear Xenon Headlights.

Plus other bits and bobs, exhaust, brakes etc etc.

I would rather sell as a whole, seems a shame to split an awesome car, plus it will cost to revert back to standard. As I say, if it doesn't get the money I am thinking then I'll happily keep :)

Hey G - I would split it all if you want to maximise.

Your car probably £15-15.5k standard, I had zero interest in my May 05 same spec as yours, up at £19k, sold for £17.5k to dealer. Selling everything you're probably looking at another £4k or thereabouts so definitely your best bet especially the seats, which will be well sought after. Is the 'charger really worth £3.5k used?

What's it worth modified - probably not much more, maybe £16-17k unless someone really takes a shine to it :(

Hmmmmm - could always keep it instead :driving:

gwatson: sorry, didn't mean to offend, was just saying modding can be a toss up when selling. And you're right, I have not changed my gearbox fluid. I only have 19K miles. I'm sure you know much more about mods then I do.

It's true he was asking a lot but the car was better than a Z4M! There was around £25-30k worth of mods in total. There was no way he was going to get that back so I think he took the only route available. It seems a shame to put such a brilliant piece of machinery back to standard spec all the same.

I would say so yes. New it would cost £4100 plus import tax 10%, plus VAT 17.5% and £100 delivery. So call it £5300k.

Remember this is the latest generation of supercharger, not a centrifugal like Tony had. :)

Anyone want M Sport seats? :)

G

Hi Graeme, you dont fancy a swap deal for your old seats back do you lol.

Car looks great, but as mentioned by others your going to make the most money back by splitting, someone I know only got 15K private for a mint 2003 3.0 which was fully loaded. Seems to be so many s/h Z4's for sale the prices are getting hammered

If you do decide to sell off the S/C I might be intrested in buying it for my 330. :driving:

Oh nice.... a supercharged clubsport :) :)

Looks like splitting may an option..... but not if I can only get £15K for my car. Would leave it as it is without the supercharger, lights and M sport seats. Surely I could get £16K with the new wheels etc??

Need about £21K in total to fund a supercharged M3, including sale of supercharger, seats, car itself and headlights.

I just don't know what to do.......

G

Curtis,

Something you should be aware of when converting to a 330 from Z4, although I am sure Simpson Motorsport will sort you out with a good deal :)

3. The cost of new software when transferring the kit is USD 499. You can not use your DME in another car. Parts to convert the kit to 330 spec are aprox USD 100.
