Software update available.

Any idea what the upgrade does or what it actually upgrades?

It's free so its my favourite and will b having it anyway, but just wondering?

Lot of lane change stuff, but I don't use it anyway.
Just amazed it's appeared, I was months behind everyone else last time in receiving it.

The release notes are available from the 'update available' notification either in the car or on the phone app - they don't appear to be on the BMW website yet, alas. Not much of any significance in there, really: tweaks to how aggressively it nudges you back into your lane, and when it starts getting audibly arsey about doing it, plus some satnav updates (ability to warn of traffic problems or road conditions when it thinks it knows where you're going, even if you haven't set a route, plus "preparation for personalised and contextual recommendations from selected third-party partners based on location and route planning" which sounds an awful lot like they're getting ready to sell ads in the navigation system...)

Oh, and there are also "new visualisations of voice control", which feature:

light spheres in different sizes and brightness. This makes the voice assistant more visually expressive. With this upgrade, it can also reflect emotional states and application-specific symbols for navigation, entertainment and communication.

I am definitely looking forward to finding out what 'emotional states' my car might want to express when I ask it to do something... Guess I'll find out soon enough, assuming my phone remembers how to connect to the Bluetooth next time I'm driving because it seemed to have forgotten this evening.

Does the emotional state depend on the time of the month?

Try asking your wife at the wrong time.

How do you know your dog loves you more than your wife? Lock them both in the boot of your car then see who is more pleased to see you when you let them out.

Downloaded the update onto the App today and apparently it will update the car the next time I am driving. As the lane discipline stuff was switched off ages ago, doubt I will notice much difference

May get the same answer without locking the dog in the boot. Wouldn't want to be cruel would you?

Mine has transferred to the car, but there is no option to start the update. Very strange. I know the car has to be in park with handbrake on and lights off, but it’s not giving me the option to start which is very strange. I’ll try again in morning. May need to disconnect the dash cam or something silly like that.

But if googling it seems like it needs a really well charged battery so will take it on a decent drive tomorrow and see if the update starts.

Just thought I would report my experience…

Got the notification of the new software from the My BMW app a couple of days ago. Downloaded to my phone then uploaded from phone to car all okay. It was then at the stage where it was on the car ready to install but awaiting to do it and it would let me know. Nothing progressed and I reasoned that as I had hardly used the car for a couple of weeks other than having to move it in and out of the garage a couple of times then the battery would be low. Put it on the Ctek overnight and could tell from the progress of the leds that it indeed need topping up a bit. This morning it was fully charged so took it off the Ctek. Got in the car to pop out and the car told me it was now ready to install and would need twenty minutes left alone to do it. Chose the option to wait until later. When I got home went into the settings screen and told it to install there and then. Locked the car on the driveway and went in the house. Quarter of an hour later my phone flashed up that it had all been done and ready to drive.

Main fixes seem to address many of the features of lane assist that prompted me to turn the system off in the first place. Not sure if this software upgrade will encourage me to put lane assist back on though!

Managed to download the update onto the App on my phone and tried to then download onto the car when out and about today. Didn’t work so checked the App just now and it says that the software is up to date but the version shown is 07/2021.85 which is not right.

The new load is 07/2022.58.

Basically I didn’t have any issues other than the delay in it finally installing in the car after I had uploaded it from the phone to the car. As I said, I believe the delay was due to the car’s battery charge being too low for it to commence install.

When uploading from the phone to the car I think it said you need Bluetooth and Wi-Fi connection, which I had, if I recall correctly.

Will give it a day or so and see if I get another notification that an update is available and try again.

Mine hasn't installed either, probably due to short runs but will try with headlights off.

Nope, will need a run to charge battery.

Interestingly if you switch the lights to OFF then start the car, they immediately go back to AUTO and can't be switched to OFF whilst the engine is running.

Went for a longer run and at the end of it it offered to install the update. All happened and got a notification on my app to say it’s done.

My coding options have gone so I need to put the b&w sound options back and the default start in sport individual back. That’s my job for tomorrow. ;)
