So what do you think of the new M2?

Agree about the seats. They do let it down a bit.
The seats in my M3 aren't too brilliant either. I read someone took theirs out and put Z4 seats in it!

I think it looks awesome. Better looking than the M4 IMO. Lovely colour! Im sure you will be able to spec up some more sporty seats.

I think I like it because its smaller the M3/M4 in the last two iterations are big… Why i like the look of the 2 its more squat, although I'm sure you will (like the 1M series) get the appointment of that series which doesn't feel as quality as the more expensive models.

Will be a great car and sell buckets.

Personally much prefer the M4 looks, the rear of the 2 series reminds me of older nissan micras.

I think it'd have to be seen in the flesh, the pics make it hard to guage size / impact of teh design. I've recently learnt motorshow/showroom/on-the-road viewing of cars makes a huge difference. The AMG GT is fine in pics / shows until you stick it in a carpark and suddenly realise how big it is.

Still, the FI really puts me off, but i imagine for most it'l be popular.

BMW still pursuing the yet-another-model method of production, can't wait for the hatchback-estate-but-peoplecarrier-tall to get some ///M treatment, then we can all go really fast on the school run with 6 kids in a car thats basically a BMW clone of a honda jazz. (yes, i'm falling out of love with BMW..)

Don't like it. The back end looks wrong. Not as muscular as the 1M.

What is it about the back end that BMW can't finish or get right. The E89 back end looks crap to, whereas the rest of the car looks great.

Soul destroying and dismal..

Ah, that's what it's called .. That's the one i meant when i said "hatchback-estate-but-peoplecarrier-tall" :)

And wow it's almost as fast on the nordschleife as a renault megane with about 100hp less.....

With this M2 bmw now finally have proven that the M definately doesnt stand for ///Motorsports anymore....
You get a lardy fat heavy little car with big bumpers to give the impression that it's fast but in reality it has the potential of a hot hatch about half it's price.
It's a posemobile for people who don't know what a gaspedal is and are under the influence of ///Marketing....
This is a looks only car...
It'll sell like crazy in the US ;)

Imo i would get a 235, get it remapped and an lsd and put the spare cash towards petrol!

Personally the sweet spot in the M lineup is still the M3... Just a shame i dont like the F series interior.

I know im going to get spat on here but I just dont see the need for the M cars, whats the point of 367bhp or 0-60 in 4.5 seconds? Am I the only one who drives around the UK, cant get past 30mph, cant accelerate at a set of lights as the next set is 250 yards down the line. You cant go over 70 anyway, the roads are full of 1 litre fiestas that do 0-60 in 11 seconds and it costs a bomb!

As a track car or for racing fine go ahead its only money and the atmosphere at the end of the day. As a car to drive in reality, I say no to all M's.

Rant over.

Having said the above, I think there is a place for the styling, but people will probably just call me a pony car driver..

Troll Level: Expert

As I have said so many times in the past when the usual 3.0 V M debate is made about it being 0.5 seconds faster etc. The M is more than power, it is the combination of all things that makes an M an M, the LSD, the sound when you start it giving you goose bumps, the howling engine, the road hugging etc.

Taking it a bit extreme to describing an M if the centre of London is your only playground, but when you get on the A roads with the sweeping bends, the sound, the road holding etc. You may have to get up early or stay up late to enjoy the most - but it is worth it for that alone.

Take it to the mountains, and you are talking about a whole new level of ecstasy as well that you can not achieve in a "normal" car like a 1.0 Fiesta.

Modern M cars are if anything the best cars on the road.

They can happily sit in traffic, go at 30mph.

But then when you get an open road, an early morning clear road, or a mountain pass, they are true sports cars.

So yes, you are wrong.

It's opinion isn't it - he can't be wrong, it's his view. Granted, it's a bit weird being on a largely petrolhead forum with a very-clearly-not petrolhead take on driving.

Just a thought - as a primary weekend toy - i dont really see the M2 as somethign that'd fill the void, but as a runabout that happens to offer comfort, handling and rediculous speed ... its not such a bad prospect (if a little pricey, for a runner... :D )

He is factually wrong about these points :D

Bluestreak - you have a car that does 0-62 in 5-point-something so you could use exactly the same argument with that. I know you're trying to sell it at the moment but you've had it a few years now so is this a Eureka moment?

If he sells it for the asking price, the depreciation of it will be a lot less than that of a 1.0 Fiesta :)

nope, don't like it. Also, note there aren't a lot of pics of rear seats; expect they aren't high quality and also will have zero leg room....
so, effectively a 2-seater with a bench for storing luggage. Or small kids. Or adults with no legs (probably called "Bob" or "Stumpy").
