So what do you think of the new M2?

Officially launched at 11pm last night, although there was an early leak of an Auto Express article.

I reckon it's good value for money. Certainly a lot more so than the 35iS is undiscounted.

looks a bruit, but those seats :O Wow, they just look like the m sport ones you can get in a 116d! Always been a fan of the OTT seats in M cars, especially the vaders in the E36 M, those are just bland IMO!

I love how it looks

But I agree about the seats, they look useless and cheap. The leather looks terrible too... Also don't like the black plastic behind the M2 flashes on the front wings, but now I'm just being picky...

I like the concept more than the actual thing...

Not massively different to 235i...

It will sell well, and the small amount of cars will hold a premium I guess.. Better than the M4..

I think they could have done a bit more with the styling... If I am honest you would not be able to tell much difference to the M235i and as some have already said they can get there M235i above 400 bhp for a lot less money... I don't think it's worth it, probably would be best to wait a little and buy a second hand M4... Not that I am going to do that , as I am happy with the Z and the new M135i ;)

Was about to post this,

I think it looks great, will be interested to have a look when it is in the stealers

Here is the PH article too :)

Side on looks like the old M 3 with a subtle body kit, no bad thing, rear nice but what the hell is that front bumper? Looks like a kid with mumps, you could'nt make it any uglier.

Interior is a bit fussy and those seats, wow, bin them along with the front end. I'm sure it'll look better in the flesh though.

I bet it drives and handles superbly.

You can tell BMW have deliberately watered it down (like Porsche used to do with the Cayman).

Nice to see a manual and DCT option though.

It reminds me a little of the last days of the M3. Doesn't seem right the there's no M3 in the BMW line up

Looks good and I bet the rear will look a whole lot more aggressive in the flesh than in those photos.

Feels a bit watered down compared to what it could be, but then I'm not sure what they can do, given that they clearly want it to sit well below the M3/M4 in the price range. I'm sure that true enthusiasts would want a small, no-compromise M car and not a value-based "M" option. Maybe the chassis/engine tweaks will turn out to be more of an overhaul than is initially apparent - a bit like the current M3/M4, I guess.

I don't understand the M2's differentiator.

The M235i is a fantastic car, but the M2 looks nothing but a watered down M3/M4 to me.

I know that the Cayman has been lambasted with the "poor man's 911" tag, but at least with the Cayman, it's mid engined and arguably a better handing car than the 911.

Where does the M2 separate itself from the M3/M4? It really is nothing but a "poor" man's M car. The 1M had it's place, was completely different to the M3, offered a fantastic alternative.

I really wanted the M2 to be special, and at one point even considered waiting to place my order for the M4 to instead go for the M2 (I definitely would have gone 1M over E9x M3). But there is nothing there to "grab you". Would feel like the ultimate 'stepping stone' car for me.

I dare say BMW are aiming it at the 1M fans..

Limited run and hard to get hold of.

Residual values will keep high, as per 1M and everyone's happy...

Limited production is what they should have done with M4...
I was in in Bmw Cheshire yesterday and they said they have sold more M4's than any other model...
Second hand market is flooded with them already...

I don't agree, the M4 (akin to the M3) shouldn't be a limited run, that's not and never has been the purpose of the "M3".

I'm not sure the M2 will keep its residuals as strongly as the 1M's (i.e. 0% depreciation). The 1M was a one of a kind at the time. A FI ///M car that was lauded in the press. The M2 will be a great car, but what does it offer other than a cheap(ish) entry into M ownership?

Completley agree, they seem to be aiming at very niche markets these days with a lot of their cars IMO.
