Skyer carbon bonnets landed at my shop today ... Pics. (UPDATED))

its not great tbh guys, as soon as the bonnet landed i reported to david that i personally wasnt happy with the finish...... but i couldnt post anything incase i damaged his chance to get it refunded......

such a shame as the piece itself was decent but the carbon finish was...... well..... im waiting for david to post the pics. its very poor. me and david have been in contact for months anyway since the deal went down as i wanted to understand what the customer service was like from skyer, sadly its fallen WAY short of what i deem acceptable.

ive offered to cover the bonnet in vinyl for david for material cost only ( around 80 quid id guess ) ill take the labour charge away, which is considerable better than the ££££s bill hes looking at the refinish the hood with paint. Personally i would have always wanted it a raw carbon finish, as at this point, its USP is dead, the stock ali hood is as light, so its cost him a whole lot of money for a FRP good with a carbon top that cant be left carbon!!! Whats the Damn point????, remember hes had to do some serious travelling to get these bonnetts from me and i assure you, the boxes alone were HUGEEEE. it was no joke to get this lined up and transported.

david is a complete GENT and to see him get treated like this ive actually found rather upsetting... its been bad, im sure he will post more details if he see's fit.

Personally david, id let me wrap it, ill get it like paint , and its going to cost pennies..... but i understand this isnt for you. consider it please

Afternoon gents . Sorry for the long post in advance .

So this is where we're at . Firstly I'd just like to say that Byron (beedub) has been nothing short of amazing throughout the whole process. Constantly checking in , lending an ear and giving advice. He's a true example of how a company should be run and how a person should be in general . Total top bloke . Cheers mate
SKYER on the other hand , well, what can I say . I contacted skyer way back in July 2021 about the possibility of shipping a hood to the UK. After a long wait and various posts on various forms of social media we managed to arrange a way to get them here . Me and a gentleman called luke , with the help of byron managed to organise a uk shipment. They arrived on the 6th of December at byrons shop . He informed me of the fault immediately. I then informed skyer . And told them I'd get some photos once fitted . To see how bad it was and to see how we could rectify it . Part of the deal was that I would collect them from byron and deliver lukes to him in Essex and keep hold of mine . 6 hour round trip later and I was home with 2 bonnets and a roof in my van . I then contacted my local paint guy to discuss fitment . I deliverd lukes hood to a bodyshop in Essex to be ppf'd (3hr round trip) . I managed to get my hood fitted just after Christmas, seeing the hood in daylight rather than under shop lighting ,wow . Big problem . Spraying it would be the only option . I contacted skyer , he took ages to reply to each email , so had to start using messenger. I suggested that if he covered the cost of spraying the hood I'd swallow the fact that I'd have a painted hood rather than the exposed carbon that I wanted . Obviously due to shipping costs and the cost of the hood ,I'd be saving HIM a fair chunk of money . I could have refused it and made him send another at his expense but didn't as didn't want to risk a repeat . I be I managed to find other stock photos on his social that confirmed it wasn't a one off problem . In his photos the lines are easily mistaken for shadows . I sent him a quote from my bodyshop and he agreed to send me the funds to have the work done . This was the 10th of January. He then didn't reply to my messages until I contacted him again 2 weeks later . Said he pay me within the next couple of weeks , sweet . 2 weeks comes and goes . Nothing . Then another 2 weeks of me messaging still nothin , no reply nothing . Then some long winded list of excuses of why he can't pay . And that he'd sort it . Another 2 weeks another load of excuses . Another 2 weeks Then he sends me a message asking for my pay pal so he can send me the money . 20th of march . Then nothing again . 7 messages from me at various dates Still nothing. Until I posted on his skyer group and his Instagram story and his personal Facebook profiles . Then he finally responded today saying he's been audited and can't access his funds but will try and get some of the money to me this week .
All in all an absolute bellend of a bloke .
From early on me and Byron both said he wasn't going to pay . We just couldn't understand why he wouldn't just say it.
I'm over it . Not even pissed off anymore. I'm not somebody that dwells on stuff as it's only money . But I just wanted to come on here and be totally transparent with everyone and let you all know what sort of bloke he is . Haven't done it sooner as I was hoping he might have paid . And this post would of been me saying " there was a problem with the hood but he's sorted it ."Unfortunately that's not the case .
I'll post some pictures for your viewing pleasure .
Cheers dave

Sorry to hear/see this OP. Probably all the more disappointing given that you said the roof turned out ok, although the real issue is how this was handled (or lack of handling).

Any indication if the other buyer also had similar issues with their bonnet?

crazy that somebody wrapped it , put in a box and shipped it half way around the world thinking that it was of an acceptable standard lol . As far as I know lukes was all good . Im Thinking they just aren't capable of dealing with the vents .

Yeah the customer service side of things is the real killer. s**t happens and stuff slips through the net , but the way he's dealt with it sucks .

That’s beyond shocking… both the quality of the bonnet and his attitude towards this whole ordeal. Then again- someone who’d consider this an acceptable product will probably have equally lax standards when it comes to running a business. Absolutely unacceptable, I’m so sorry for you OP and Byron. Best of luck sorting this out

Thats a real shame as the bonnet looks really nice apart from those lines and I would have been very tempted . Not sure what I would do now paint or wrap but as mine is blue I would probably go for paint . A very nice offer from Byron though especially as none of this is his fault . Thanks for posting this and all the best going forward .

Those pics are painful to view.....

suuuccchhhh a shame as the part looks incredible and fits well , but the weave finish is is utter dog poo. i cant believe that was packed and shipped like this, its a scrap piece as far as i'm concerned!

Sheesh, that’s sad to hear, and maybe even sadder that it’s not entirely surprising. I’ve heard very similar stories on their aero skirt replicas; gaps between the panel and body of over an inch, improper mounting points, and zero support when it comes to finding a solution. I really hope you can come to a workable outcome [ref]Barrett.d[/ref]!

[ref]Beedub[/ref], while I’ve never met you in person I’d just like to say you come across as an absolute stand-up guy. You stand for your company and its clients, and that’s something hugely commendable  Sadly we’ve got Skyer to show us how not to do it…

I plan on going down the Göke Carbon route. They build various panels for the Z4, including bonnets, roofs, and even tailgates. When I move forward with the bonnet and roof I’ll make sure to update. From what I’ve seen so far is that the fit and finish is excellent, and communication so far has proven clear and quick. If there’s any way I can help, I’d be more than happy to.

thanks buddy, ive worked very very hard to build a reputation of one of the very best in the business! ive done so on integrity and high quality work with customer service that i believe is unparalleled. Most of all i adore this job / sector. Everyday is a dream.

Haven't had the pleasure of experiencing the service you provide yet but the advice you have given me re products and body work care have been spot on.

This is one member who appreciates the service you provide. Perhaps when I get my next zed, will pay you a visit to have the full ceramic treatment
