Sitting in the car in the garage having a beer and enjoying some tunes

So we are in lockdown here in NZ.

It’s been 7 evenings of family movies with the kids and I’ve had enough.

So I’m in the garage having a beer and enjoying my new Bimmer-tech speakers with some MP3’s I imported to the hard drive (great idea BMW - so much better than streaming imho).

Question: will the car shut down when I’ve run the battery down to a certain point or will it just keep playing music till it’s flat?

Cheers

7 days? Pah, you are a lightweight :D ... try doing it for months like we have in the UK!

it'll turn off unless you have the ignition on..

Yea we’ve got a bit to learn about lockdowns. Hopefully it’ll be something we never need to excel at.

A few things;

1. As Clarker63 says it turns off by itself after approx 12 minutes if ignition isn't on.
2. BUT you can circumvent that by inserting key & blipping the start button without foot on brake pedal - which turns on electrics & leaves them on.
3. In this mode you should get a yellow warning light on the dash display at the centre of the instrument cluster if power drops to a low enough level.
4. Might be a good time to fix up a trickle charger in your garage if you don't have one set up already...
5. I'm not a fan of the onboard hard drive because the car manages its own compression levels, sound quality is moderate and you don't get album covers on the iDrive display. Instead a tiny USB permenantly in the armrest socket enables better quality (I use m4a with a high bitrate), much higher capacity and artwork.

Mike, you can watch those family movies in your Z, the idrive is also a dvd player! Go anywhere drop the roof and watch your favourite film, handy for when you don't want to go in the shops with the other half. Make an excuse and watch a film. The cupboard behind the seats makes a great dvd library 😄

I can't help with the battery thing, but bluetooth and spotify is my preferred music choice. Uploading mp3's seems a bit 2008 :poke:

I stream from Spotify but I'd like to get a mmi box fitted then you have access to a whole new world

agreed. we're hoping to get to see our family in Christchurch sometime soon. although the way its going, I suspect its not going to be next year despite Jacindas "Open Borders" policy.. as the UK is likely to be on everyones red list.. :(

We're in training now. 2020 wasn't bad with minimal lockdowns compared to other States and Countries, but Delta variant has locked in. With our compliments, one of your countrymen decided to visit here and take home a dose with him. Keep it in the North Island if you can.

Yea I don’t have a trickle charger but the car gets used fairly regularly.

I don’t have the arm rest usb, just the one in the glove box and that won’t let you play from a stick, only import files. I have an after-market Bluetooth added so can stream - does Spotify give better quality than the hard drive?

I do like the old school set up with no phones involved tho.

Ah OK -fair enough. Can't comment on spotify - I'm old school too....a good choice of music from your photo - that one's on my USB too
I found that a trickle charger is a handy thing for when I want to sit in the car and tinker with audio or satnav or whatever for an extended period. I learnt the hard way that if you sit there long enough the battery warning flashes up - hence my recommendation. :)

Had no idea you could play DVD’s in the E89, I went straight outside to try ! Everyday is a school day

Yea, they are saying our Delta was imported from NSW by one individual.

I got rid of all my CD's and DVDs so I've got nothing to play in the car. But I remember watching The Inbetweeners in my mates e89 while we were in the channel tunnel on a road trip from London to Frankfurt - great memories.

There you go, the E89 the car that keeps giving! Only works while the car is stationary, you can bypass using Carly + plugin, but then you are breaking the law :police:

They will employ a witch finder general next to track down these individuals.
There will be some big barbecues!

Looking again at your photo, I have to wonder what drives you to sit alone in a 2-seat car in the middle of winter, naked, drinking beer and listening to mp3’s. Now I have never been to the Southern Hemisphere and I don’t fully understand all the symptoms of Covid in your region, but I feel I have to question your actions. I see that there is a bike in the garage and wonder (understandably, given your actions) if you ride that while naked except for a pair of earbuds. :poke: :)
