Simota Intake will be available in August

IT'S HERE!!!!

Luckily they left it with one of the more friendly neighbours who handed it to me as I stepped out of the car on my return.

Didn't realise there'd be so many (well 4 or 5 :P ) bits to assemble though :o

Is the filter an oiled type or a dry type ?
It comes dry and you have the choice of oiling it or not. Oil is only recommended for off road or dusty/sandy countries.

I'll be keeping mine dry when I fit it.

Current insurer won't cover/quote for my car with it fitted, so just waiting a week or so for my new insurance policy to come into force which has the intake declared - although I may do a trial fit/run on private land.

BTW, to anyone else on here who's got one of these, can you tell me how many nuts you've got, as 5 bolts and 2 nuts seems a bit unbalanced, and I can't assume you're only supposed to use 2 of the nuts to keep the MAF & filter together?

m5 ... seriously... how on earth are you taking the time to show these pics!!!

GET it on the car already!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

looks nice man!!! really nice!!!

Pictures only take 5 minutes.

Now it's dark, wet, and I'm tired after a 5 hour/210 mile drive from London - mainly due to a couple of overturned lorries, flattened Porsche and a Range Rover that looked like it had covered 200m on it's driver's side around Gaydon/Warwick on the M40 this morning :headbang:

I hear Blah Blah Blah, I want to see pictures of a fitting taking place :D

If I haven't got all the parts (i.e. correct number of nuts), then I'm not going to fit it anyway - hence the call out for others on here who've received one - as I'd be leaving the MAF/filter connection loose.

Although it doesn't mean I can't do a trial fit to see how quickly I can swap them out for before & after soundclips - bonnet/front numberplate mounted I think (or maybe driveby) as otherwise the exhaust might drown out the intake.

I'm mostly interested in how it affect the throttle response. There's plenty of videos of the AFE online which i'm pretty sure it'll sound the same.

I'm not sure if I'll be able to detect a small change in throttle response as it'll likely be less than the change due to weather conditions/temperature.

Although it does say on the box (their words, not mine):
  • Increase power by 10 horsepower
  • Customization acceptable
  • Horn shape designed at air induction path based on aerodynamic to extract maximum cold air directly
  • 100% handmade carbon kits. well performed in heat isolation
  • Cleanable and durable twin-inlet high flow air filter
  • Extremely lightweight
So maybe one of those features will increase throttle response.

Strangely, the only reason I bought it is not listed - the noise!!!

I bet you have and you havent worked out how it goes together :) i made the same mistake

You should have 1 short bolt, 3 medium and 1 long, plus 2 nuts

I will wait until you have tried yours until i post anything else

Whilst you're swapping these parts over, please can you accurately measure the internal diameter of the aluminium pipe which houses the MAF, and also the same bit on the OEM air-intake. Thanks!

I think I know how it all goes together, with the intake trumpet on one side of the filter housing, the MAF holder on the other side and the 4 bolts going through the 4 holes.

But, without actually putting it all together I can't tell which of the 4 holes the bolts with nuts should be used on.

84mm on air filter side
88mm on throttle side

the short bolt is for the bracket, the other 4 for the trumpet/maf piece, of which the long one is at the bottom on the right side as you stand facing the front if the car.

I am very interested to hear how you get on. my car was not happy at all.

Had another look, and the MAF housing are all threaded, so where do the bolts go?

Rough idle? Does the problem go away if you re-fit the old housing?
