Should I re-map ?

Think about getting pre and post dyno runs to verify the remap. Evolve offer this. Just depends how far you are located from them.

Although this is nice to do in terms of seeing how your car baselines against others..from a re-map view its irrelevant with the quality suppliers as they have a standard upgrade and its not tweaked or tailored on installation.

So the upgrade will be what it is and highly reproducible..the benefit of a rolling road is comparing incremental / alternative changes to an engine.

If you are just doing a straight re-map and can get a dyno run thrown in free then great, otherwise I'd save the money and just look at the other charts already published as yours will be pretty close, and most likely, from the same re-map supplier, any variations will be down to the dyno itself. how the runs were done, temp, pressure, number of runs etc..

All IMHO

Evolve remapped mine. BHP is up, but the torque is incredible at 350 ft lbs!

Hi what BHP is associated with that torque figure?

Do you have a dyno copy we could see pls?

Had a quote from Celtic this morning. Bit more research and shopping around first, then I'll decide

I wonder why there were two prices quoted..£295 and £325?

Different agents?

My evolve map dyno’d around 290ish lb/ft

Thanks, that sounds more plausible than the other number quoted, 350, I assume there has been a transposition between ft lb and NM..

Or a highly modified engine making as much torque as a M40i..

Yeah 350ft/lb sounds too high.

Mine made 270bhp and just shy of 300ft/lb.

I’ve really noticed the difference and mine was the 28i so 245bhp to start with. I imagine for the 18i and 20i it must feel astonishing!!

I bought my car when it was 2 years old (2014 plate) and it had done 30k Miles. I do a lot of miles and it’s been mapped for at least 30k miles. It’s now on 80k miles and it is perfect. No issues. It’s always serviced by BMW when it needs to be.

Only issue I’ve had was a boost hose shattering but that was due to debris from the road!!

Is anyone willing to disclose the increase on their insurance premiums? Or do people generally not disclose to insurers? Pm me if you prefer.

I disclose ..I’m with LV on all three cars...the remap penalty was around £40 in £300 ish , along with alloy wheels, spoiler ...

I am sadly an old fart with 9 years of no claims living in the countryside far from footballers...

Did you declare your spoiler? I didn’t realise you’d have to do that.

I’m with eSure and pay about £300 a year with 13 years no claims. I tried to speak to them about whether they’d cover my car with a race chip but they 1) didn’t seem to understand what I was talking about and 2) said they don’t cover engine mods at all. So I’d probably have to look into other insurers. :(

I just thought if you were going to 'fess up to an ecu remap which would take some effort to find that the different alloy wheels and spoiler which are very obvious might as well be declared.

At the end of the day the only time you need insurance is when you have the mother of all accidents and then when the insurers are looking at a £1m payout for the 11 year old kid that is now crippled for the rest of their life, they will look very hard for a way out!!

A guy I went to school with totalled his (heavily) modded car a while back and the insurers refused payout because he didn't declare that he'd changed the alloy wheels. Apparently everything else was declared, so maybe he didn't know he needed to?

Last week I declared the alloys I currently have on order, and the fact they will be non-RFs.

Insurance Co said they won't affect the premium, but she will note it down

What mpg do people get on a 20i with conservative driving, post-remap?

I can get 40mpg+ fairly easily, it’s unchanged from standard if you drive conservatively.

[ref]Smartbear[/ref], wow... my onboard computer shows 26.1mpg, I've even reset it to zero and tested.

I'm definitely fairly conservative... I've tried driving like a granny for a prolonged period just to test the computer!

I was listening to Jeremy Vine a few years ago about this very issue and a Vicar had his claim rejected as he had stickers on his car of a religious nature that he hadn't declared so I'd be careful in not declaring obvious things

So many doubters! :poke: Ok ok, I'll post up a dyno chart as soon as I'm back from work. Hopefully I haven't mis-read it. Pretty sure it was 350ft lbs. Feels like it pulls. :driving:
