Should I re-map ?

This week my Zed went into Sytner for its end of warranty check, brake fluid service and first MOT. It passed the mot without advisories and they changed the N/S boot hinge and strut which was found to be leaking under warranty. It went in gleaming and in better condition than 2 pre-owned Zeds that were in their showroom, it came out covered in fingermarks :x

Whilst they had her for two days I was given a 240i convertible, not the nicest looking BMW in my opinion, but the performance was incredible and now my Zed which I love dearly feels like a slug. I thought my previous E85 was quick but the 240i .... wow

I've been trawling the ads looking for a 35is but in all honesty I love the car I have, had it from new and it's only got 16k on the clock. Now that it's 3 days from the end of it's warranty I'm wondering about a re-map ?

Any advice on the pros and cons and where to go would be very much appreciated

I bet there was some curtain twitching from your neighbour across the road 8)

My 3 series was in for a rear end shunt and was with Sytner for 5 weeks, another long story of woe ...

During the five weeks it was in we had from the dealership a Mini, a 316 and then a 520d tourer, there has been a lot of curtain twitching !

Its been beaten to death, like many things on the forum, but a simple re-map to around 280 BHP will transform it..and AFAIK there have been no adverse reports at that power level or less. For around £400 its a no brainer IMHO save the insurance issue of full disclosure.

The auto box responds very well to the power upgrade.

Hi, evolve automotive have a good rep but are in Bedfordshire-i think other places can apply their maps under license?
I’d do some research & avoid places no one has heard of.

Celtic tuning operate through a dealer network and have their own staff in roving vans as well.

I've used them on my Z4, Volvo XC70 and F56 Mini.

On the Z4 they have to remove the DME , open it up and then reprogram it to get around the anti tamper h/w and s/w

They operate globally and seem to steer on the safe side of these matters. Evolve has a good reputation albeit smaller in scale.

For a geek its very easy to cut a piece of code but ignore various other issues at your peril..I would strongly advise you avoid the back street boys on this one ..the N20 is a very clever, very capable unit BUT its got a myriad of sensors and piles of logic..

The more I read about various systems and subsystems and interactions I would want someone who would offer a warranty on their work!!

I got a quote from celtic, although I have been pondering doing this for some time. Just need to grow a pair and man up.

THE PERFORMANCE

The BMW Z4 (E89) 2009> ECU remap takes the power from 181bhp up to 280bhp and the torque from 199lb/ft up to 290lb/ft.
This stage of software is designed as a software upgrade only meaning it is all within safe tolerances of the engine and drivetrain and requires no hardware modifications.

THE COST

The cost of the remap is £295.00 all-inclusive for which we travel to your location whether it is home or work place.
With all remaps we offer a 14-day satisfaction guarantee which gives you plenty of time to ensure it is exactly what you are after if not we will revert your car to its original software and fully refund you.

THE AFTER CARE

For complete peace of mind, we provide a FREE 12 month's insurance backed supplementary warranty for vehicles still under warranty: Download Warranty Information.

wow a 100bhp increase from a remap! that's a very healthy gain, advantages of a turbocharged engine

cant comment on Celtic Tuning on an E89, but I've had both my E92 335i and my E90 330d remapped by Angel Tuning nr Banbury - gains of 60bhp and 50bhp respectively, and both have been brilliant and transformed the car. my 330d has done 40,000 miles with the remap and zero issues to report (other than TCS kicking a lot when deploying the full 590nm of torque it now has!)

Like your style yorkie z
Still pondering on a re map for my 3.5i
As someone mentioned above, I’m gonna need to just grow a pair and do it .... one day .... maybe..:.😔

So for those who have disclosed, how much does it add to the premium on avg?

How does it affect mpg with conservative driving?
My 20i is showing 26.1mpg currently.

Thanks,

Darren
