Retrofit Cruise Control

Am I being thick ? I thought the retrofit instructions on the first page applied to my 07 coupe? It was these that refer to hacking into the loom in a couple of places?

Nope.. if you're being thick, then I am too, cos I thought that was the full instructions for the N52 too.. but I think the guys above are going to post a "howto" specific for the N52, as I obviously couldn't take photos of those steps :)

If they're kind enough, I'd like to roll their pictures and text into this guide, so that this guide covers both engines... (obviously giving them full credit for those bits!)

Would be brilliant - am very keen to fit this and follow the instructions asve dont know exactly whats involved re the wire tampering lol

I don't know what my engine is  It's the 3.0i from a 55 reg Z.
The photos I will take is of me messing around with the wiring loom... Is that what's needed here?

So mine is pre facelight (still have orange indicators) with an M54 engine...

It's post the 04 plug'n'play, so I still have to use the wiring loom to attach it. I havent seen any guides for this, so I'll try and do some tonight as I continue my quest

Great thread.

Mine cost £66 from John Clarks Aberdeen and took me about half an hour to fit including cutting the cowl.

Thanks again

is this something my dealer can do? Just had a few motorway trips and I really miss having cruise control, especially on the numerous 50mph sections these days.

Not confident to do it myself, bearing in mind I'd be wiring into a system that controls the engine. Don't want to turn my Z4 into a Toyota!

yes it is something they could do  they will charge you about £150 labour, plus the £150 for the kit.

You could always order the stork and loom from the dealer and get them to fit those, would save £70 and then dremel the cowl yourself, as said before the CC cowl really is a rip off.

+1

just ask them to fit the loom, the stalk is simply click and play... and the cowel will take you five minutes to sort

Hi.

Nice guide, took me 20 mins to fit, piece of weewee. Undo screw, release plastic, plug in, pop in, dremel cut slightly inside the line, pop on, screw on. Looks factory fitted :)

Anyone done this on an M?

Does it need to connect to the DME and if so what pins?

Thanks in advance!

Andy had his done by and indi, but dont think anybody has done it themselves.

Hi guys,
Would very much appresiate if someone could help me. :(

I should have the correct model (3.0i from 2003) to do this.

However, I took the plastic off under the stearing. The only avalible
socket I can see is a tiny one (2-3 mm thick). There are also a couples of
wireing (covered in black) that I cant see the end off (see arrow in picture below). Could this
end in the correct socket? (I am affraid to pull hard in that wire if it´s conected
to something else, like the ignition or so).

Hope that someone here can help me... :?

Hi and welcome,

that looks like the right plug

Here is mine taken from a slightly different angle:

you have to remove some of the tape holding it together with the other wire...

Super. Thank you so much, Gannet. I checked mine again and I have the same numbers on my socket as the one showed on your picture.
Great!

Now I just have to order the unit and start cutting up my car

Best Regards /WGG
