Even if you end up going to the dark side, it is excellent it won't be under a cloud and having fallen out of love with iMmie.

Result......... :)

4th time lucky eh.....lol..

Or do you think that they have actually found what was wrong with it in the first place ?..

Either wa,glad to be back.......has the 997 thoughts now diminished ?

I have no idea. Just glad it's over and hopefully the niggles are sorted.

I'm trying to work out finances at the moment on the 997, SWBO wants to replace hers, the S-Max needs replacing and and and ... Well you get it. Endless family drains on finances.

Quite right too 8)

Gloomy here, but due to be nicer here tomorrow so hoping for a nice evening drive back from work :driving:

Excellent news - pity it took so long but they got there in the end (and you got to have the M3 as a loaner)

What a bizarre set of events! Glad it got sorted for you though. Makes you wonder why they sent DME's out with old software on in the first place, you would think they would be updated with the latest software as standard!
I don't believe there are or will be any further updates to the DME available anyway, it's old now so software development would have stopped long ago so you'll have nothing to worry about there.

Does seem to suggest a DME fault or a wiring/earth issue though that was causing your problem as others have updated the DME software to the latest in the past to try and cure the rev dip/hesitation and it either always returned or made no difference from the get go so interesting to see how it pans out for you. Also ties in with a chap on here who had BMW diagnose his rev drop as a wiring/earth issue but sadly he never posted again giving further details. Out of interest, did you get any paperwork telling you what software version your now running or have access to INPA that will tell you the software version?

Did they look into your VANOS rattle that you mentioned in your initial post and diagnose that at all?

Actually my public transport use is working out very well, thanks :D

However this time I will be in the car as my travels this week make purchasing a weekly ticket uneconomical.

And it's number 82 or 85

Thanks all. I'm happy to have her back.

No, I didn't get any paperwork about the software versions. Apparently there's a VANOS service kit and they fitted that. So far it's been quietly on start but remains to be seen once it's cooled down overnight.

My indie re-flashed mine when I got it - hadn't been done since new, took 27 updates and 2.5 hours...

So much for FBMWSH - I take it BMW don't do it unless you ask, which seems bloody stupid to me... Of course if this happens a lot then perhaps they're wise not to update it as standard...

My dealer checks for software updates when they put the key in the reader. I've had a few over the years but 27? I doubt it so maybe I'm missing a few!

Glad this saga appears to be over now Stuart

Same with all software updates in a way. If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

Exactly, and as they'll charge you the (extortionate) labour rate for exactly how long it takes even though it's just a chap pressing 'enter' on a keyboard and a computer doing the rest your better off leaving it unless you have a specific problem!

The '27' updates will refer to the '27' parts of the DME code that need updating rather than 27 consecutively released updates over time. Had a print out of all this info and the code updated from BMW somewhere which they gave me when they did the update, all pretty useless as it's all in German obviously! As far as I'm aware there was only one software update released for our DME, IIRC a TIS update is hanging around somewhere that states the update specifically fixes cold starting issues and 'kangooring' and that was about it......
