private plates

Defo get one on the Z , even if a cheapo one that you sell on with the car
Some cheapo ones here http://www.r4v.co.uk/searchgallery.php?c=CHE
Bought mine off the above site for £200 (all in ) around 8 years ago

I have one and I love it. This is the only one that was close to my name as my last name is Hines
And also it makes the car look half her age.

Very nice looking Zed!

For me standard number plates are too long, just think that shorter private plates look tidier, especially on a motor as cracking looking as a Z4

Cheers mate, I agree private plates just finish it off.

When I saw yours on Saturday Mr Wilks I was thinking to my self that couldn't of been cheap?! But for £200 what a bargain! Mine cost nearly £300 all in.

Bought this when I got my first Zed and transferred across to my Coupe earlier this year. Surname is Conway, so works well and was only £250 via the DVLA. The wife now has J5 CWY and just bought the daughter L7 CWY to complete the set! :D

It would appear, based on the above, that I am wasting all of my money. Oops  :P

  Nice one Bing

As George Best said - 'I spent a lot of money on booze, birds and fast cars. The rest I just squandered . . . .'

Depends how you define 'waste of money'.
We have 4 of them in our family, all short ageless 5 digit plates and they have all risen in value. The best from £250 to £1,200+ since '98, the worst from £600 to £800 in 24 months.

I'd be hard pressed to find investments of that level elsewhere over the last decade. Doesn't seem like a waste to me :)

Separately they make me happy to see them on the car, allow me to drive a really old Zed and other older cars, unknown to others and escape from the bi-annual changing of cars for new plates, thus saving me a shed load of money, which is where many folks waste serious money

I am in the for camp, I like it disguises age of car and it feels more your own to me, ie. personal plates.
We have one each , My better half is Diane Dutton. Her plate is D1 DUT. Makes it easy for her to remember it too.

If I didn't have a private plate I couldn't have mounted it like this, which I think transforms the front end

Also based on the last time we valued it which was going on for 5 years ago its probably worth more than the car

Im obsessed with them.I have bought them for all the grandchildren so they have them ready for their first cars!!!!!! I keep them on retention,so pleased you have 10 years before you need to renew,or put on a car.

I agree totally with the "look" - took mine off for a while when I was thinking of selling - didn't feel that different until I put it back :

My old zed is the silver one - my current one is the grey :D

Everyone's showing theirs so here's mine. I think it's a distinctive plate and doesn't date the car, if people read 'Z4' that's a bonus :)

I can see the Z4 and would have seen it on the road.

Seeing stuff in number plates is a bloke thing I think. I saw MJ55 ADE which was clearly Jade. But she wouldn't have it until we could see the Jade boot sticker!!

Steve Postlethwaite - Nickname unimaginatively is Poss or Possy
Born 1960
Got this plate for £250 all in a couple of years ago - always thought they were a waste of money but changed camps now
Remarkably around the corner from me is a Mazda with PO55 YYY on it!
Tempted to make an offer for the car to get the plate :)

You never know they might just sell or even give you the plate? Gotta be worth a cheeky ask

Clearly too much disposable income Dan  wait till the baby & that'l come to a end mate

Ha ha tell me about it Andy. I'm the sole provider now

Bought JC14NNA recently for my partner Joanna ....on retention as she hasn't yet got a 14 plate (or newer car)

A previous company bought me V6 SGT but there was a mishap when I left the company and it was sold with the car.

The current Z came with ANZ4434 which was nice to have and I just put X25 SGT on retention. I'm an old network designer and anyone in a similar trade of similar vintage will know about X25 :)
