private plates

Never felt the need for a private plate until a few years ago when I saw a Volvo with the plate DK 49. It nagged at me for ages where I new the plate from until I was going through some old family photos months later when I came across a photo of me aged about 7 and my proud dad standing infront of his first car which was a moggy 1000 with the plates DK 49. Would love to buy that one.

How can this be ? this number plate is currently on my car - it's not for sale !

Ive had that before.. Its either been with one agency and they all advertise it with a bit of extra mark up, or theyve seen it, know where you live and would knock on your door if they get the right offer. They're cheeky buggers !

Both me and my Mums have been contacted by a third party to buy our plates. My Mums plate reads ROGUE, which people like to point out to her and she pretends she's never noticed :poke:

Mines was a present for my 18th Birthday so contains 18, significant numbers like 18, 21 etc are sought after for gifts for birthdays according to someone I spoke with at the Dvla. My plate also reads two names both male and female so appeals to a wider audience.

Both bought for £250, Mum was offered £12.5k and I was offered £10k for mines. Neither will be sold.......well not by me anyway.

I pulled out of the bidding for OL11VER last year at 4k, it went for 6k iirc. was looking to buy it for my nephew.....he's just turned 5 so it'll be a good few years before he can drive. Always on the look out for something for either of my nephews, within reason.

You never know they might just sell or even give you the plate? Gotta be worth a cheeky ask

Yeah you're right - I keep meaning to check the phone book in case it's already a private plate to them - a few of us about in this neck of the woods :D
Mind you I like the one I've got TBH

I have one but currently not on a vehicle. Bought it as a memorable 30th birthday gift to myself from family cash gifts (better than buying CDs or other crap I also don't really need). Not sure I will use it until I change my motorbike. Any takers, always open to sensible offers!

I have a personal plate, it means something to the family, but probably nothing to anyone else.

and.........

I got it from the DVLA for FREE!

it says 03 not 30

We have any combination of 6 letters/numbers available for personalised plates here, but of course most intelligible combinations are well taken by now. It takes a creative mind to make one up that isn't taken (if you don't want to pay a fortune for an existing one, and that's if you can get the owner to sell the plate). Good ones sometimes come up for auction but go for silly money (although not to the person who buys it, I guess). I can't for the life of me think of a good one for a Z4 that's not taken, although since the amount of Z4's here is a lot smaller, there are probably more combinations still available. I have to justify the approx £400 purchase price as well. Have many other things on the 'want' list before plates reach the top...

yeah thats right because my name is Rob
not R03?

did you know that is cheaper to change your name by deed pole rather than buy a private plate?

where is this pole you speak of, most people actually change their name by deed poll :poke:

so... think i might bite the bullet on a cheapo one, gonna be either a 6 digit with my initials or a 7 digit with stv on the end (my name is steve) neat trick on the dvla website where you can see it on your make of car... whaddya think.... haters need not further contribute to the thread :D
