Power Mirror Folding using the Key Fob

Are you holding the lock button down for about 5 seconds to fold the mirrors?
The roof should open from the fob it just won’t close with it.

Yes, that's exactly it! The mirrors also unfold - just needs more than a single tap on the key fob
as with my other cars. Thanks, @Chippie! The mirrors are much better like this.

You can set the delay needed to hold the lock button that activates the folding mirror - I have mine set to 0.5 seconds (half a second).

There is no delay on unlock - it is instant.

These options are in the standard screen (not the expert mode) & can be set individually for the mirrors / windows / roof.

Thanks @matsmith749 - will play with the settings. My wife is already much happier now that the mirrors fold/unfold on command! And I will no longer have to go back to the car and press the button on the door :)

Which options do you choose to set the mirrors to open/close on bimmer (I have confirm access)
Thanks in advance

It says this in bimmer (not convertibles )

Fold mirrors with convenient closing
Enable/disable mirror folding with convenient closing. Please note that your car has to be equipped with power folding mirrors and that this option does not work for convertibles.

Values:

Active
Not active
Requirements:

“Footwell Module” FRM2_E89 or “Footwell Module” FRM3_E89 or “Footwell Module” FRMFA control unit

I'd need to check in the car, but I set everything active that was related to convenient open/close - you want the options for remote - the standard ones are for key opening, I think

Although it says "not convertibles" I don't think that applies to the E89 - I suspect it's for eg the 3-series or Mini. I have no real idea why
it would not be an option there! I also have no idea why BMW set this up in such a strange way (unless to sell comfort access?)

Set everything to active like you described
Says coded and ……. Nothing
Mirrors don’t fold

Am I doing something wrong ?

There are two additional expert settings that @matsmith749 pointed out

If you just enable folding/unfolding mirrors on the standard screens, it does not work.

You also need to code (in BimmerCode Expert mode):

CAS : FH_KOMFORTF_MIT_SUBST
CTM : KOMFORT_SCHLIESS_FBD89

On my car/app the second one seems to be called KOM_SCHLIESS_FDB_E89 instead.

These are in the Comfort Access System (CAS) and Convertible Top Module (CTM) sections of the app, respectively,
so you need to code twice (once for each module). The ECU reboots after coding each one.

Then you need to be aware that unlike most cars, by default there's a delay before the car responds to the remote
- you need to hold the unlock button for 5s to unfold the mirrors and the lock button for about 3s to fold them.
You can change these delays too.

Good luck.

Managed to work out the 2 expert codes
Changed them both to active and still nothing

Windows close fine - just nothing from mirrors
Quite frustrating

This might be a really silly question but have you tried the switch on the drivers door?

Suspect you don’t have folding mirrors..did you check the VIN decoder ?

It does have folding mirrors, they work when I press the button no problems

What do you mean by check the vin decoder
I’m using bimmer and one of these

Veepeak OBDCheck BLE Bluetooth OBD II Scanner Diagnostic Code Reader for iOS & Android

No worries missed the previous post that they folded on the switch…

We’ve had several folks trying to code folding mirrors when they weren’t fitted..a vin decoder takes your vin number and shows what options your car was manufactured with..

Strangely the vin decoder doesn't show folding mirrors but it clearly has them
sooo frustrating as I'm sure its something simple on the programming

does anyone know in expert mode when changing these:-

You also need to code (expert mode):

CAS : FH_KOMFORTF_MIT_SUBST
CTM : KOMFORT_SCHLIESS_FBD89

do you just change from inactive to active?

Here are screenshots of all the main settings on my car from BimmerCode. Note there is one in the Footwell Module as well as the obvious ones in Comfort Access System.

I'm not much help by PM guys - I've figured this out just like the rest of us by using the forums - I'm definitely no coding guru!

If the above isn't enough to get it working for you, and you definitely have folding electric mirrors fitted, there is a thread out there somewhere that you will find within 2 minutes of googling that has a head-to-toe list of all possible coding options for folding mirrors.

That's where I found the 2 lines in expert mode that were needed - it's possible you need more than that as it seems different options fitted / different years of car maybe have different needs to get this magical trick working.

Finally sorted
It was the footwell module that I was missing
Works straight away now
Also brought a digital display up
Kevin really appreciate it and thanks to everyone else for their support
And that’s why forums are great
