Personalised plates - thoughts?

Depends on what it says. Some number and letters (fewer the better) without any year suffix or prefix in my book passes as cool. Plates which people try to make them read like something it isn't, in my book are naff!

I've never bought one, but my current Z4 came with one on it - althoug hobviously it isn't personal to me!

But I quite like it as it is shorter (one letter, one number and 3 letters) and it doesn't date the car. IMHO Z4s don't look as old as they really are. :)

Just what mine is letter, number,3 letters .
Plus got shorter plates on rear.I feel the e85 carries its age well and plate does enforce that fact, its probably the most often commented point about the car"doesnt look 18 years old".if it had the original plate ìts blatant how old she is even for those who know nothing about the Z4,s.

I’ve got his and hers with a 5 - I’ve also shortened the front plate within the legal requirements on the Z

If you fancy a private plate, just get one and sod what anyone else thinks!

I like them. Had mine for my 21st birthday and kept it on all my cars.
We have a few in the family with just different numbers, W1, 2, 8, 10 etc.
It spells my surname so very relevant to me.

Definitely polarises opinion

Fan myself and own 2, but some people get really sniffy about them - live and let live I say, except M badges and whippy aerials of course.

I've had the same 5 digit plate with my initials on since I was 21 - when I got the Z4MC I wanted E86 but it wasn't avaialable so settled for E8 and now have that on the E89. Personally I think the 5 digit reg looks better and it doesn't date the car - plus I got what I thought was a cracking deal on the BMW plate holders including the embossed metal plates.

Strange this topic should come up! I’ve literally just put one on the Z because I wanted to take the age off it. Have never bothered in the past and not fussed about initials or spelling something witty. I just went for the cheapest plate I could find that looked fairly unique...

So you have made it look older and less powerful :poke:
