New Z4 more pics? *Updated 14.10.08* almost here :)

Interesting lines if correct that they have retained the crease lines from headlight to rear arch and the second over the rear arch to echo the existing Z4, but dropped the sharp angled cut up through the repeater to windscreen

I do like the overall look though, but am certian it will be too expensive, 'fat' as most 2nd generation models are and too civilised

When the Z4 came out it was a huge leap over the Z3, maybe the new one will be the same.

If it looks like the PS in this post I think that's a good thing.

The current design features that the new version attemps to "correct" are what sold me on the Z in the first place..... Is it me??? :?

Some might call it a tow bar. I thing the Z got a little too excited about something on the street!

I quite like it. When's it due out?
Must be within 12-14 months or so, maybe sooner. With all these pics now, a motorshow appearance of some description must be within 6 months.

Speaking of i-drive... I've owned two vehicles with it and I think it's great. If there were a buttonn for everything it can do, the dash would be FULL of buttons. Routine functions such as radio and heat controls can be done quickly & easily with the dash controls as with any other car. IMHO if you can use a personal computer, i-drive will be easy and intuitive for you to use. I know it's popular to bash it, but try it first and see what you think. Maybe that's why both Mercedes and Audi are copying it.

not digging those stupid bonet bulges on the render... thus far, i like the outer shell of current z4 more. interior will be nicer on the new Zee though, for sure.

November apparently for a launch, the press pics and vids are being filed as we speak. Come on people, how has no-one managed to snap a pic of it yet.

Word just came down from Munich: the new 2009 BMW Z4, stage name E89, will make its official debut in November. The marketing materials are in works now and the official videos are waiting to be filmed very soon.

We weren’t told if there will be any event revolving around the launch of the new Z4, but we wouldn’t surprised if BMW will pull something off like they did in Moscow, with the new 7 Series, but this time, probably in a warmer location.

Starting to make sense to me. BMW is not going to miss a model year which would have been the case if the car was to appear in late 2009. Production is shut down in S-Burg as Z production switches to Germany. I understand that the new Z is super hush-hush, just like the the new X3. I was told many months ago that the new Z would be first shown this Fall, but I didn't believe it as there were no leaked pictures coming out - yes, a few here and there, but not like in years past where there was a rising number of sneaked/spy photos right before official release. By this time of the year (with a Nov release), we should be seeing more spy photos. BMW can't have left over Z4s on the lot in Spring 2009 - it will have to be the new one. Spring in the US will be busy for BMW NA with the big roll out of the new 7 series. But, BMW is getting the hang of having two or three big roll outs a year.

Price is one concern, another is financing. Big 3 are re-thinking the lease agreements they have had in the past. Banks, like Wells Fargo, are saying "no". Take a look at the leases (residual and money factor) on the 1 series. They just don't want you to lease it, if you insist, a fully loaded 135i Cabrio will be $900/month. So, there may be some sticker shock with the Z4 replacement, but there may be a further kick with lease or financing rates that add another layer of hurt. Not everybody leases, of course, but the auto makers have become addicted to it even if it is a double edged sword. Remember the last few years as BMW NA heralded new sales records each year? You don't move that much high-end German product without a financial nudge to a lot of buyers.

What market is BMW looking at with the new Z4? If they are looking to compete against the MB SL roadsters, then they will be starting in the $75,000 - $80,000 range. It is my hope that BMW still wants to sell a sports car, not a roadster. I am told it is longer, wider, heavier, more expensive and with a tin top. The devil will be in the details.

My Z4 lease is up in Feb 2009. If the new Z4 is stretching to run against an MB SL, I'll starting looking at a 335i Cabrio.

Or, I'll pay up and buy my current Z4. I can live with that.

Still think it will not be available until mid-2009 anyway, the launch will just be to show the car off, most recent cars haven't actually been available until onths after the official launch.

Leasing isn't very popular in the UK anyway, and the prices were never as favourable as they were in the US. If yours is up in Feb 09 you might have to either buy your car or get something else to keep you until the new one comes.

There has been a steady supply of BMW UK management cars over here for the last few years, but this is starting to dry up, there are very few late models coming through. Definitely something on the horizon.

I read this week that BMW are bracing themselves for huge losses from North American lease deals coming to an end. Looks like they've got their sums wrong and done deals too cheaply in order to get product to market. Could be some right billy bargains for used Z4's on the horizon.

Looking at recent examples of the BMW Intro-Release (Euro/UK)-Release (US) sequence, I would expect a Euro release of the new Z4 (can we even call it that?) to dealers within 30-45 days of Intro. Then the colonies get it two months later.

Mike - you're right, completely different markets there and here. UK mags often prefer the Zed to the Porsche Boxster, while over here the "Z" is an also-ran in comparison.

Correct, but if you've already got one then it's bad news as the resale value keeps going down and down.

I'd say that there are probably equal markets for them, over here Porsche is only a 2 year warranty, and the factory specifications are not good, you need to add quite a bit in options, which makes them expensive.

Leasing is not as popular here because there is a misconception that paying out for months to have nothing at the end of it isn't a good idea, but that's all you do with cars anyway. With something like a Z4 less than a couple of years old, if you borrow money to buy it, unless you pay off £500/month as an absolute mimimum then you'll never have any equity in it. I got a runaround car, and leased it, I couldn't buy one for less than I can lease it.

There's surely something going on recently to get rid of the old bodyshells and engines here in the UK.

Local dealers in the NorthWest had got loads and loads of 2ltr Z4's available with pretty incredible dealer contributions to the PCP deals thrown in. Looks to me like they are clearing the old models ASAP from the US plant so they can start producing new models.

I know US don't get the 2ltr model and I doubt it's ever been that popular in the UK either. Does the engine go into any other model or is it a legacy unit which only fits the Z4? That would make sense if they're closing the plant for Z4 production and moving the model up the line with 3 and 3tt engines from the 3series.

Hurry up BMW and make some official release about this. It's killing me having to wait.

IIRC in all the other models it's a 170bhp now, not 150, so these must be the last ones they need to use up.
