My Second Zed Thread (2010 E89 sDrive30i)

Thanks for the feedback - I do enjoy maintaining an ownership record but do wonder if people get annoyed when my thread constantly crops up in their unread post feed.

I'm really enjoying your thread. I'm now waiting for some goodies from the postman as a result :D I did the interior LED upgrade last week. I knew BMW were mean and have already added cruise, but I hadn't appreciated I was missing footwell and door lighting too.

Managed to pop out with some Z4 chums last Sunday for a blast around the Cotswolds - glad we did now as the lockdown came into force a couple of days later.

I thought the car felt a bit vague a couple of times, but didn't think too much of it at the time. Turns out, the nail I spotted in the front offside tyre a couple of weeks ago must be a new addition, as when I checked the low-looking tyre today I found it to have exactly zero PSI. Impressive things these run flat tyres.

It's half good news in a way - there's no way I'm buying a 'new' 17" tyre, so this makes up my mind to fork out for a brand new set of 18" tyres for the newly refurbished wheels and see what happens.

On an unrelated note, the M-Sport wheel is just a lovely, lovely thing - both the width and the feel of the material. Would recommend this cheap/easy upgrade to anyone with a standard skinny wheel.
You must have been at warp speed Tim ! Myself and that ratty e85 were on the Mendips the other Sunday not the Cotswolds

Thanks - I'll be interested to see your results, I did the LED interior upgrade on my E85 and it was a vast improvement.

What a muppet, I've only lived here 7 years now :D
(in my defence, I used to live in 'Cotswold View' in Bristol!)

Cleaned the gunk off the new tyres, to find a nice gouge taken out of the off side rear.

This is despite asking the fitter to please take care given they're a freshly refurbed set, and feeling like a nob for doing so.

Happened with the wheels I had refurbed for my E85 too. So annoying.

Tipped him £10 too :headbang:

Grumpy email to follow tomorrow.

Very useful video posted on Youtube recently:

https://youtu.be/cWltc7C4VVc

Gets a lot of stick this chap for being slightly monotone (mainly fron the Facebook muppet brigade), but clearly knows his stuff and has DIY'd a load of jobs on his car. Worth a browse through his historical content.

Good timing, as I'd planned some roof maintenence this summer. Already had Gummi Pflege so washed and conditioned all rubber bits - took way longer than when I did it on the E85 but the roof/boot lid needs moving about to get at everything.

Also ordered some lithium grease for all the moving parts - hoping it will cure the subtle 'creeeeeeeak' noise during the last inch of boot lid travel.

Here's the flat tyre solution now the run flats are gone.

Emergencies only, generally I'll just be happy to sit and wait for the breakdown peeps.

Clean, polish and wax last weekend. Very sore the next day :)

Lubricated all roof moving parts today using lithium grease, again following guidance on the video a few posts back.

Hasn't cured my 'creak' sound which I think is plastic related rather than moaning metal - someone posted on Facebook a couple of weeks ago with identical sound so presumably not uncommon. I'll grab a video at some point.

Stuck my flat tyre inflator kit in the boot today.

I've told many people this over the years, some laugh and tell me "everyone knows that", some walk away grateful for their new found knowledge, so here we go: most car interior fabric is velcro compatible. Be amazed

3 strips on the back:

Perfectly secure:

Also here's a video of the creak I mentioned. Listened closer today and seems to be part of or very near to the whole soft close mechanism.

Unexpected positive result. I bought some 'full dip' (competitor to plasti-dip, frequent arguments for and against) a while ago when considering spraying my clown nose grills - but as a kind forum member gave me a standard set I shelved the idea (partially because I failed abysmally at plasti-dipping the front grill on my Skoda a few years ago).

With the imminent arrival of the m-sport bumper (which will mean the grey accents at each front corner will disappear) and nothing to lose, thought I'd give it a shot. The results are surprisingly good - to the point where my wife didn't believe it wasn't a shop bought matte black grill :D

Before: (cleaned, de-greased, literally nothing else)

Fastening bits masked:

Bodge spraying table so I could hover the grills in mid air:

Ready to go:

After 4 generous coats: (perfectly emptied the cannister):

Just a heads up that https://www.hubauer-shop.de (BMW online dealer) are selling the 19" Style 276 as a set for 623 euro (free shipping over 290 euro, delivered to Belgium) with handling it comes to 647 euro. I just ordered a set, which will allow me to sell on my current set.

You need to order #36116782908 (rear) and #36116782907 (front). Think it is an absolute bargain (17” is twice the price), and I very much like the clean design.

[ref]Rassi[/ref], Did you get these Rassi? Looking at a set for myself. Been cleaning my 296’s and they really could do with a refurb - was thinking about getting theses instead of refurb. Shipping to UK not bad €32 on top of standard

I did indeed, a direct replacement of my current set, as I decided that the risk of cracks from having run RFT and the cost of a refurb would be worth the price of a new set for my PS4S.

Thanks, just going to bite the bullet and get a set. The 296’s have been running RFT’s. So between them needing a light refurb and the worry of the dreaded cracks being there when I go to fit new PS4S, that are sitting in the shed - they arrived before lockdown, a new set seem the sensible option

Also given the price of the 276’s today it’d be rude not too - this is the price shipped to the uk - dropped a bit since you flagged up the previous good deal
