Montego Blue E86 is Long Gone - Z4MC 2025 Summer Prep

Excellent read well done ....I do nothing to my Z4 I have no garage and generally very busy working in uk and Europe as a man and van so always I’d take it to a garage if anything was needed but really enjoyed reading this well done

Thanks for the thread Lucas, certainly given this Antipodean a few more ideas. Would you mind sharing a pic of your exhaust tips, thinking of doing as you have done to our car. With the time difference between our locations we have missed the last few of MM's items being for sale  and we may well contact your exhaust shop in Notts.
And if you are close to your car would like the ride height front and rear (arch thru hub to the bottom of the rim)

Thanks in advance, Bill

Only photo that I have handy right now is one that doesn't show it very well. Once the car is clean I'll take photos of the car showing the tips which have recently been re-welded.

I've lost my tape measure so can't get this measurement for you at the moment, but the distance from the top of the tyres to the arch/wing is ~12.7mm all around.

Did you buy the "Easy Restoration Kit"? They sell a few, trying to find out which one I need!

It was something else, it came with a bunch of coloured dyes in case I wanted to tweak the colour. But that kit is all you need really.

Sorry to ask - I thought you did a great job, I bought the "Easy Repair" one which didn't really work as well, so am trying to track the right one down!

Was it this one?

There's another one which has an aerosol for painting it?

Yes, that's exactly what I used! Perfect results for me as you've seen.

My Montego coupe with half Montego leather, having trouble getting leather dye for it.
They do it in the States but not too popular over here

Just wanted to share some photos of the car now that it is very clean for the first time since I finished all the recent mods.

A week after getting the alignment done, I went on a driving trip to Cornwall with two Z4 friends. After some 700 miles of hard driving I can honestly say I know how it handles now with the new mods and geo and I am extremely pleased with it.

Brake upgrade to come as soon as I can afford one!

Once I got back I did an oil service, flushed the brakes with new Motul 660 fluid and changed the gearbox oil. Changing the gearbox oil didn't do much in my E85 (although it was a noticeable improvement), in the E86, however, it's very noticeable and gear shifts are very smooth now, especially 1st gear.

Then I detailed the paintwork. Compound, polish and wax all by hand; the colour has a very deep gloss to it even though not all swirls are gone. The car looks fantastic and I honestly couldn't be happier with it.

Your car is looking better than ever Lucas - hopefully I'll see it in the metal on Sunday.

And it looks like you had some good company for your Cornwall trip!

Stunning car there and a testiment to your work in getting it to where its now at.

Theres just something about getting things the way you want and doing the jobs yourself you cant beat.

Sorry to bring this up again, but did you use any other pre-cleaner preparation before applying the colourant, like IPA? Also, how is it holding up since January?

No, I didn't. That post was made in January, the seat refurb was over a year ago and 12k miles. It's holding up alright, not perfect, but plenty of dye left to touch up as required.
