Machine monkeys zed

I am just getting nervous now. Hopping that it all lines up and i dont get vibration or any other horrible things happening. R&D is a painstaking job i have been as careful as i could and i have a bit of knowledge about this stuff. But the worry is have i over looked anything?? Find out tomorrow i guess when they go on.

I dont think i will bother with the stickers. The car is showy enough i think.

I will hopefully have a nice update with lots of pictures Monday.

well like you say, you have a bit of knowledge about this so even "if" there are problems you will pick up on them early on and have the skill to put them right!

Fingers crossed. Sometimes though the skill is knowing something just aint gonna work.

yea i suppose there might be a "get out while you can" moment.... although lets not be negative here, you have done some great work before and we have faith!!!

(p.s get some photos up in the supra thread im following that also haha)

good luck

Yeah i am feeling a bit woeful about the brakes at the moment. Also the steering conversion and oil cooler. I think its just knowing i dont have as much time to do it all.

Big things happening with the supra over the next few weeks. Hence the lack of time  i have had to cut and modify the plenum so that we can hopefully close the bonnet. Fingers crossed that will be done now. The the engine work is done. And we can move onto the gearbox. Once that's done it will be fitting and connecting up oil and fuel lines. And then we have to get the ecu and wiring done.

Well i had done lots of measuring and shimming and calculating. AND?????????????????? It has all bolted together and seems to work!! I was a bit off in one place and had to machine 0.7mm off of the lobes. but it all looks good and spins freely now.

This is a video. Click and watch if you want to. It is just a disc spinning!!

Looks nice.
Nice heavy bracing on the lugs. The only thing you have to check is if the caliper can match the thickness of the disc. So that the pistons don't pop out when the pads are virtually worn.
But being calipers from a production car and not some bbk with extreme thickness discs I cant imagine that that'll be a problem.

If I were you (I know, I'm not) I'd beadblast the calipers, get it sprayed nicely (If you can spare the money, powdercoat), and maybe rebuild the seals with a rebuild kit.
And some nice brembo or bmw decals on it (I'd go for brembo, I love the italian styling in their logo). There's no sin in showing off your hard work

Thanks for the tip mate. The stock alfa and BMW discs are the same thickness so shouldn't be a problem.

Yeah i will give them a spruce up before they go on finally. Not sure about the stickers. It seems a bit too hey look at me. These where a performance not a visual upgrade for me.

Get a sticker on there. It's a brembo performance mulitipiston caliper. And a one of a kind creation.
It's not like you're putting stickers on OEM stuff, this is the real deal.
If it's blank it'll look 'empty'

I don't know if it's possible but your avatar as a vinyl sticker in white (on blue paint) would also be really cool.

Is it a 300 or 325mm disc btw?

you might be right. I am going to make sure they work properly first. It seems like bad juju to be thinking that far ahead!

325mm

All brembo's have brembo stickers on when you order them, do it!

Happy to hear it all bolted up, where's the blooming pics?

Who are you insured with?

As much as I admire your bravery in home making braking components I can't help but think it would void most standard insurance policies.

Why would it void the insurance policy? Does it say that putting on different brake parts voids the policy? I think lots of you brits drive around with bbk's?
I don't think you have a system like the germans with their TüV schein?

I think when it doesnt say specifically in the policy, the only thing you have to pass is MOT.

Well if it's declared and they don't ask any more questions then great but if it fails they sure aren't going to pay out. At least when you buy a BBK it has been formally designed and tested.

This is also formally designed and tested?
As those are very empty words.
And when MOT'ed also legally tested imho. Unless it is specifically mentioned in the policy or law.

MOT test is paltry and lacks detail so wouldn't spot this.

Measuring up and chopping something together is not on the same level of 'design'.

There's a small notch near the top bolt in the picture on the right hand side which could act as a stress raiser and propagate a crack. In all likelihood the whole thing will be fine but it's not without its risks.

If it was me I'd directly say to my insurer 'will you insure me for my brakes which include a home produced bracket'. See what they say...

Compared to something perfectly road legal like a Locost / Haynes Roadster with a completely home-made chassis this is really nothing to be concerned about.
