Hi, i got this new a about 2 weeks ago and finally took it out for a spin today in the sunny weather, when i got home i give it its first clean and noticed some problems with the paint and panels not linning up, i am not a pro painter by any means but have painted a few bikes and the odd car panel.
To me this looks like it has been hit and painted in a dusty garage/paint booth as there are inperfections all over the left hand side of the bumper and the clear coat is a lot softer as i can press my thumb nail into it,
can any one advise me on there opinion on the paint and what i can do next
The car has 247 miles on it and was "Brand New" from a bmw dealer.
here are some photos

Right hand side which is fine

these are quite hard to see but are all over the right hand side

just cant belive this is happening

cheers.

Bring the car back to the dealer, and get them to fix it. If they don't, make a formal complaint to BMW UK.

Try not to freak out. It's probably just a light bump it's had, give the dealer chance to sort it.

It's quite common on these cars esp if there's no pdc.

My car had a wonky rear bumper and a bit of dodgy paint on the bumper also. Turns out the prior owner bumped a bollard. I took the car back, the bumper was realigned and paintwork corrected. You'd never know now.

Speak with the dealer, let them sort it for you and be sure to press for compo. I did.

I think the bonnet probably just needs adjusted..

The bonnet is fine, i think the bumper has been hit at the bottom left hand side and been pushed up.
if the bonnet was adjusted it would not match any where else.

Thanks.

The thing is its a new car, i would understand if it was second hand but its new.

if i new it was hit and painted i would never have bought the car
Thanks

Straight back to the dealer.... and I would want an equivalent car whilst they repair it.

Poor show from the dealer

Depending on the outcome, might be worth naming and shaming in the dealer feedback section.

Gutted for you mate

Thanks folks

Metal licker, that is a great idea, i will get a professional inspection done on the car
Thanks.

It apparently is the "norm" that transport damage is fixed prior to dealer delivery, so the dealer might not even know about it.

There are specialist centres that is all they do. I would be gutted as well though and would not want a car that has already been painted. I let them fix it once on my previous X5, and when the problems came a number of years later with that part of the paint, they did not want to know.

if it is just a light bump the least i would except is a new factory painted bumper, if any thing else is wrong the car is going back and i will refuse the car,
no way am i taking a damaged repaired car
this is my pride and joy, it will stay in my garage most of its life and do around 1000 (odd) miles per year

cheers

Tbh its quite scary that dealers are happy to send this quality of workmanship out of the showroom!

thanks,, some times i think im am to fussy but i agree with you, how could some one let this out knowing that it is faulty

At the very least it's shoddy BMW workmanship, at best it's an attempt to disguise an accident, and so mislead you. If the car is only a week old, and you really believe it was damaged before delivery to you, I would insist it is rectified. You could even consider rejecting the car - unless you are prepared to accept a car with unknown additional damage to that you can see.
Of course, you need to be sure that no one could have driven into it after you took ownership (eg car park etc) so really closely inspect the entire car and any photographs you took when you first collected it.
Sorry to see this, it's in stark contrast to JDM's exuberance.

Looks to me like a stone chipped front bumper or minor impact has been resprayed prior to sale. Back to the dealer to get sorted but start low key don't go in with guns blazing. Remember it's the dealer who holds the responsibility for selling pre owned cars and nor BMW although the dealer must abide by BMWs code of practice in selling pre owned. AND dont name and shame just yet as you might find once pointed out to the dealer that you get an excellent response..... .

Did you not notice this before you purchased?

It's interesting that your "brand new" car has 247 miles on the clock and signs of damage, yet JDM's "brand new" car has only 9 miles and no sign of damage.
Yours wasn't preregistered or a demonstrator I presume?
